5.

Alex tossed a bit, jarring awake Viktor. Viktor gently shook Alex’s shoulder. Alex’s face contorted in pain and he struck out, clapping Viktor on the shoulder, “Stop... Dmitri...”

Viktor froze, eyes wide in realization. It couldn’t be. Viktor shook Alex until the man woke up, breath fast, eyes panicked. “Alex. Alex... wake up.”

Alex turned his head to see Viktor in bed with him. He leapt to the other side of the bed, pressing himself against the wall. “You... me...”

“Still nothing.” Viktor said, “Who is Dmitri?”

Alex’s face turned white and his shaking resumed, “None of your business.”

“You were telling him to stop.” Viktor said, “Come on, Ovie, we used to be friends first, long ago. Tell me what happened.”

Alex shook his head, leaping to his feet. He grabbed his shoes, quickly putting them on. “I have to go. Leave it, Kozzy.”

“I can’t.” Viktor bent down on his knees, attempting to look into Alex’s face, “I cannot ignore that you’ve been hurt. It’s best to get it out.”

“Kozzy!” Alex yelled, “I said leave it! Don’t pretend you care about me. It’s been years!”

Standing up, Alex left Brooks’ room, attempting to leave and hold in his angry tears. He paused as he saw Brooks and Mike eating breakfast together, awkwardly, pretending not to have heard. Mike looked up, eyebrow raised and Brooks was focusing on his oatmeal. Alex ran a hand through his hair. “Thank you for last night. Is nice to sleep here. I go now.” Alex said.

“You sure you don’t want to talk about it?” Mike said, “You were yelling about something in russian...”

“No. Is nothing.” Alex smiled and made his way to the door.

He paused, looking back at his two teammates. He had felt like they were family. He knew he could confide in all of them, but Alex had lived for so long in silence. If it was fine before, he could be fine now. Alex left for his car.

Koz slowly left the room, body sagging. He looked at the others and said, “It no work.”

Mike nodded, leaning back, throwing his spoon onto the table. “I really thought if he just relaxed, got comfortable with you again, that... that he’d open up.”

“I got a name.” koz said, sitting at the table, “but not a full name. Dmitri. We... used to play with Dmitri. Might be same.”

Brooks stirred his oatmeal a bit more and said, “Well... maybe we should check with his other friends and family and ask about a Dmitri.”

“Is smart?” Koz said, “Alex no want me...” Koz struggled a bit, “To look around.”

Mike shook his head, “Listen, Alex needs to let it out. I’m about ready to lock him in a room with a PMSing Zilla for an hour.”

Koz sighed and nodded, smiling slightly, “Thank you for help. We try again. I have... idea.”

Mike leaned forward, eyebrows raised, “Oh?”

Koz said, the russian slipping from his lips, “A drop hollows out a stone.” He sighed, repeating it in english.

Green raised an eyebrow and turned to Brooks, who shrugged. “Good luck.” Mike said.
