She knows Elle's skin better than she knows her own body and so the last nine months have been a fascination. When she wakes up in the morning she traces Elle's stomach and feels the life beneath her hand: the life they made together. Any day now, she thinks, as her fingertip twirls around Elle's bellybutton.
"That tickles," Elle mumbles.
Claire smiles and places her lips on the exact same spot, listening to Elle's laugh and hoping their baby might kick in response.
