They sit on the sofa together, dunking chocolate digestives in steaming hot tea and watching some nature programme on the television. Mitchell's feet rest in George's lap. They both act as if nothing as happened, as if nothing has changed.
They act as if the dressing on George's neck isn't there at all. They act as if Mitchell didn't lose control last night. They act as if they still think that being around George - loyal, trusting, sweet-smelling George - is a temptation that Mitchell can withstand.
He sips his hot tea, burning his tongue in the process, and he doesn't say that he's sorry. In the end, he knows those words are worthless - so what's the point in even trying?
