Title: In Isolation
Characters: Miles, Daniel, Charlie, Shannon
Word Count: 200
Rating: PG
A/N: Queen hollycomb asked for Miles and the ghosts. I also used writing_rainbow's "Tiger Lily" prompt (though it can't be seen too much in the final product - I was thinking of Tiger Lily from Peter Pan when I started writing it.)
Summary: Hiding among the dead has its disadvantages.

They don't get it. 'course they don't get it - they're cops, he's the robber. Pirates and ninjas. They looks at him like he's a freak and they keep their distance: Miles tells himself that's fine. He doesn't want them anyway. The dead are too busy chatting in his ear.

That doesn't mean he doesn't get lonely, but it's a self-enforced isolation. "You should come and join us sometime, Miles," Daniel tells him one morning in the weak sunlight. "You don't, um. You don't have to hide all the way out here."

"I'm not hiding," Miles snaps.

"Oh, okay. I just… Okay. Sorry." Daniel backtracks - flees - and Miles scowls at the sand, telling himself he doesn't care.

"D'you always have to be such a wanker to him?" Charlie asks, leaning against the closest tree.

Miles sighs and doesn't respond. It doesn't matter. They'll keep going; they'll always keep going. When he hears Shannon chiming in too he decides to catch up with Daniel. "Hey, Dan - wait up," he calls.

If he has to listen to the ghosts bickering one more time he'll go nuts. He reaches Daniel -pleasantly startled - and settles down to walk by his side, leaving the dead behind.
