Title: Son of Sol
Pairing: John Paul/Kieron
Word Count: 550
Rating: PG
A/N: Written with 7_deadly_sins_'s "Greed" prompt. The title is taken from Volpone - "Oh, thou son of Sol (but brighter than thy father) let me kiss, with adoration, thee."
Summary: After Myra's outburst, they spend a quiet night hiding from the world.

It's wrong to do this, to keep John Paul to himself. They're hidden away from the world in their soft cocooned apartment. Kieron closes his eyes and buries his face against John Paul's neck. His skin smells clean like soap or shower gel. It's fresh and it feels so warm. Kieron wishes that they could stay hidden like this forever.

He doesn't think that John Paul would object if he suggested it: John Paul's vision is so narrow sometimes. It's a breathtaking whirlwind, so easy to get lost in. His world-view is something that Kieron wishes he possessed, so simply and optimistic. In John Paul's world, love conquers all.

Yet Kieron is too rooted in reality. His hands search John Paul's body, slow but hungry. The young man is tired but smiling - his blue eyes still show a hint of concern for him, but he seems to understand that Kieron can't talk about this. Kieron can't yet face what he's lost: everything. Absolutely everything. His job, his reputation, his entire life. Beside him, though, John Paul is warm and accepting. Maybe he's worth it.

And that just makes it so much worse, doesn't it? Because John Paul is so young, so kind, so gorgeous… It isn't fair for Kieron to keep him here.

John Paul shifts, his lips brushing against Kieron's temple. They are brilliantly hot and soft - Kieron doesn't think he could ever get enough of his lips, such a tempting sight. He closes his eyes, blocks them out.

"Are you okay?" John Paul asks, though he must know the answer. Both of their worlds have crumbled today: Kieron has lost the Church, John Paul has lost his family. Kieron doesn't know if they'll make it through this sacrifice. He can only hold on tightly and blindly hope that they will.

He trails his thumb over John Paul's jaw line, over every sculpted inch. Looking at John Paul now - at his impossibly blue eyes and his golden blond hair - makes Kieron feel his faith in God more than a dozen passages from the Gospel had. John Paul is God's creation in action. Kieron laughs, quiet and empty, because he can't think of a more fitting reaction. "Am I being selfish?" he whispers uncertainly. "Keeping you from your family… Myra needs you, John Paul."

John Paul's gaze dips away from Kieron's, like he's hiding. That alone causes a solid ball of pain in Kieron's chest: just having John Paul look away from him when he needs to hide in those lost-at-sea eyes leaves him desperately alone. He was never a gambling man; he doesn't know how he got himself into this. He doesn't know why he didn't manage to resist this temptation, but now he feels like this will be pulled away from him as well.

"And I need you," John Paul says eventually. He stares at Kieron's shoulder with a thoughtful impression. "My mum'll come around to it, I promise. She just needs time."

"You really believe that," Kieron says. Not a question, a statement.

John Paul rests his head against Kieron's chest, such a warm and familiar weight. "I kind of have to," he admits, a quiet mumble. Kieron's fingers trail peacefully back and forth on the skin of his upper arm: for tonight they can hide from the world. Tomorrow they have to face it.
