Ally glanced up from her notebook to the waitress standing at her table. “Um… just a coffee.” She looked back at her notebook and began writing.
“Here ya go.” She heard the voice again and smiled up at her politely. Over the woman’s shoulder, she saw a tall young man. His back was to her, something about him fascinated her. She watched the muscles move under his dark t-shirt as he leaned over a table at the other end of the diner. He ran a hand through his tousled brown hair. Her heart sprang into her throat.
They never did find his body in the rubble. Maybe…
“Tyler,” she gasped, jumping up from the table. She ran over to the other side of the diner. “Tyler,” she said again, touching his arm.
The man turned at looked at her. “Who?”
She blinked up at the unfamiliar face. “Sorry. I thought you were someone else,” she stammered.
“It’s alright,” he said as she turned to walk back to her table.
She fell into the booth and grabbed her notebook, scribbling a quick, simple message on the page, her hands shaking. I’ll never forget you.
