“Hello?” Penny asked, rolling over to answer her phone in the middle of the night, still half asleep. “This is Penny. What?” she asked, bolting upright. “Is he ok? Alright. Alright. I’ll be right there.”

She jumped out of bed and quickly pulled a pair of jeans on, then grabbed her jacket and purse and ran out of the apartment. She rushed to the hospital, running inside to the nurses’ station. “Hi, I’m looking for Sheldon Cooper,” she told the nurse at the computer

“No! No, I don’t want it!”

She blinked, looking in the direction the screaming was coming from, and sighed. “Never mind. I think I found him.”

“Stop it! You’re tickling me.”

“Sheldon?” she asked, walking down the hall as his voice got closer. She finally turned into a room at the end of the hallway. “What’s going on?” she asked automatically, looking from Sheldon to the nurse standing next to his bed.

“He was trying to give me a shot.”

She rolled her eyes and looked at the nurse, who shrugged. “It’s just a pain killer. He fell down three flights of stairs,” he told her. “His arm’s fractured and his back is bruised.”

She looked back at Sheldon. “Three flights?”

He sighed, looking annoyed. “A step was off by nearly 5 millimeters.”

“Three flights?” she asked again. She shook her head, sitting down on the bed next to him. “Are you in a lot of pain?”

“Of course I’m in pain, Penny. I fell down three flights of stairs.”

“Ok, sweetie, I think maybe you should take it.”

“Mrs. Cooper, if you can talk him into the medication, it would make the next few days a lot easier on both of you,” the nurse told Penny.

“What? No,” Penny said quickly. “No, I’m not his…” she trailed off when she felt his hand slip into hers. She let out a breath and looked at Sheldon again. “Let him give you the shot.”

“No,” Sheldon said stubbornly.

“Sheldon, I am not sitting in bed with you for the next week singing Soft Kitty. Let him give you the shot.”

“Soft Kitty is for when I’m sick,” he reminded her. “I am not sick.”

“Bruised and broken is a kind of sick. Just let him give you the shot,” she said again. “Please? For me?”

He finally looked at the nurse and nodded as Penny squeezed his hand softly.
