“We gotta stop meeting like this,” Jason said as he walked over to Casey’s desk. She was sitting in her chair, her forehead against the desk.
“I’m not in the mood, Walsh. We could have gotten killed.”
“It’s not the first time,” he reminded her.
“I know. That’s exactly it. I should have listened to you.”
He sat on the edge of her desk. “About what?”
She let out a shaky breath. “When you said I wouldn’t last.”
He touched her shoulder gently, then stood up and pulled her chair back.
“Walsh,” she groaned, now forced to sit up.
“Put your head between your legs. I’ll be right back.”
She did as he told her as he walked to his desk.
“Drink this,” he said, putting an unlabeled liquor bottle on her desk when he returned.
She looked at him, then at the mysterious brown liquid. “How stupid do you think I am?”
He sighed, then walked to the water cooler and pulled out two Styrofoam cups. He poured some into each glass then handed one to her.
She sniffed what he’d given her, then gagged. “Really?”
“It’s my hangover cure. It works on sick rookies too.”
