Joan sat alone on her bed, watching the rain fall outside her window. Pictures of her and Adam were spread out in front of her.
She picked up her favorite one, his arms wrapped protectively around her waist from behind and he was kissing the side of her head.
She sighed, throwing the picture back onto the pile. Things were so perfect between them then. Back when being in love was easy. When it didn’t hurt so much.
Before her.
A picture of them cuddling on the couch when they’d first started dating caught her eye. She ran one hand through her hair.
She always wanted her first time to be with Adam. But she always pictured it as their first time, not just hers. She had her chance. That night in the camper. It could have been the first time for both of them.
Maybe if she had slept with him that night, things would be different. Maybe they’d still be together and they’d still be happy.
Or they could have drifted apart after. Things might have gotten awkward. She might have been bad at it.
It didn’t matter. She didn’t sleep with him.
But what if she had?
