I am enlarging on albinoqueen76 's question about meningitis. I have long suspected that illness-related FM may be related to illnesses that cause inflammation of the brain.  Illnesses such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, encephalitis, and menengitis are examples of these illnesses. Perhaps you may be able to think of others.  A significant subset of fm patients ( Read more... )

encephalitis
a still unknown viral infection
addisonian crisis
lupus flare up

these all happened at the same time, and after i 'recovered' from these issues, i was hospitalised with "violent, severe fibromyalgia" and chronic fatigue syndrome, with all the sypmtoms for everything.

i have many other health diagnoses, however, these were specificaly prior to my fms diagnosis.

My college roommate got mono. She gave it to me. I ended up getting diagnosed not with mono, but chronic fatigue syndrome. A few years later that diagnosis was modified to fibromyalgia. And, as I noted in a response to a different post in this community, I was born with hydrocephalus, I've had 17 brain surgeries, I take two antiseizure meds, and I'm going in tomorrow for an EEG because I've started having partial-onset seizures again :-/

When I was dx'ed with fibro I had gone to the dr thinking it was mono. I was tested for mono once a week for 3 weeks because dr was SURE thats what was causing my chronic fatigue. After the 3rd week of head scratching he decided I had cellulitis in my foot, gave me antibiotic, and sent me on my way. I KNEW it wasnt cellulitis, went to a new dr, who saw my list of symptoms and matter-of-factly said "oh, you seem to be have a fibromyalgia flare".
