& i suppose a little different, as i have a piece that isn't yarn.
i'm in a surface design class, & my latest piece was actually an air & ocean inspired one.
the fabric is one yard of 8mm habotai silk.
dyed with acid dye, i did a flat layer for the overall lilac-y/grey color, then used the arashi shibori technique with cotton thread for the turquoise & the magenta layers.the navy strip was done using the sculptural shibori technique with coins and wooden beads tied with cotton thread, and the bird-like parts were done using wood shapes clamped to the fabric & placed in a thiox discharge bath.
