Politicians and Oaths

Swearing-in on Quran

This is a silly debate. First, if the person taking the oath is  not Christian, swearing in on the Bible is non-binding for that person, therefore one should choose a book that means something to that person.

Second, there are no religious tests to become a political leader in this country, and swearing on a text is not required. Often politicians swear just by raising their right hand. Hence, it should not matter what book is used.

Third, the only text that politicians are required to uphold is the Constitution, therefore, if we are going to choose one text to use in all situations, it should be the constitution.
