My neck and shoulders might hate me, but my reading habit loves me. I walked to the library on my lunch break today and borrowed way too many books. I have 300, Identity Crisis, Promise of the Wolves, The Mathematics of Love, and The Eyre Affair, plus I've still got Firestar's Quest, Midnight, The Dark Knight Returns, and The 5th Horseman to finish first. And I still haven't read Superior Saturday yet, even though Mei-Mei's had it for months. I love books ♥
Finished Fearless Fourteen, the newest Stephanie Plum book. My love for the series is now completely rekindled. I'd been growing increasingly disenchanted with it over the last few books, although I still got a laugh out of them. It was just all beginning to feel a little samey, and I was starting to wish Stephanie would just pick between Ranger and Morelli already. But Fearless Fourteen is Janet Evanovich at her fabulous best, and I enjoyed it in a way I haven't with the latter books.
For one thing, there was a lot more Morelli, which fills me with the kind of glee most girls seem to reserve for Edward Cullen. The fact that the plot revolved around his crazy family probably had a lot to do with his extra page-time. I also really liked the feeling of domesticity around Stephanie and Joe's relationship in this book. They've obviously reached a point where they're very comfortable with each other, and Stephanie spends more time living at Morelli's place than she does her own.
It kind of makes me wonder why Evanovich hasn't just had Stephanie pick Joe already, when it's become so obvious that that's the way the series is heading. Ranger is exciting and he clearly cares for Stephanie very much, but even Stephanie can't see herself having a life with him. Whereas Joe she describes as "definite husband and father material" despite his checkered past. But maybe it's that continuing element of conflict and uncertainty that Evanovich is playing on.
A poll, for all the ladies on my f-list who're familiar with the Stephanie Plum series. Heck, the guys can play too, if they want.
Poll Fearless Fourteen. If it isn't already apparent, I'm definitely a Morelli girl, myself. He's just more my type than Ranger, who doesn't seem to have any discernible personality as far as I can tell other than being dark, mysterious and sexy. And Morelli has a goofy, adorable dog, which instantly earns him points. Personal preference, of course.
I would have thought Anne McCaffrey would be more than popular enough for most of her books to be at the local library, but I can't find Freedom's Landing, the first novel in the Catteni series, listed in the catalogue at all. The library in Toowoomba had it, so why doesn't Brisbane? They have the other three books, but not the first one. Fail. And just when I randomly felt like reading it again, too.
