See, now THIS is what I want to see more of.
It makes me feel a little better that feminist crises in the US are (in general) more along the lines of this.
Not that that isnt a bad thing.
The gyst? Fred Thompson's wife is really hot, not to mention 25 years his junior. She has a tan! She looks young! "Will so called values voters (ie conservative republicans) accept this union?" The lovely Joe Scarborough already implied that she is a stripper, commenting on whether she "worked the pole".
Of course, its less important that she is a former senate aid and a spokeswoman for the RNC. She is still a bimbo. The new york times even felt the need to point out that she isnt even a homewrecker! Good for her. Pat her cute little bleached blonde head. Because even if there was an affair, the burden would be on her shoulders, not her husband's.
Is it that hard to believe that a hot chick can be intelligent and successfull in her own right? On top of it, why is SHE being questioned for being a trophy wife? Its assumed that her husband had as much to do with the decision as he did. Interesting addendum from the New York times article: trophy wife initially wasnt an insult. Yes, the position of wife was in its second or third incarnation, young and beautiful, but importantly equally as successfull in her own right as her husband. We seem to have forgotten that part.
Even the title of the article is questionable: Will her face determine his fortune? umm... I would hope his qualifications and positions would. Last time I checked, president wasn't a hottest wife contest.
