RSPCA volunteering and other stuff

RSPCA
I went this morning to Tesco's in Brislington to collect money and food for local RSPCA branch. That was a really good experience, we spent about two hours in the store, distributing leaflets with info about Bristol Dog's home and their events, and collecting money and food donations. I was also giving out for a 1-pound donation really cute key-rings.

RSPCA has an agreement with Tesco all over UK if I am not mistaken, and the store allows them to do collectons before Christmas and in April.

I quite like their policy of fundraising - not aggressively asking people for money, but talking only to people who choose to come to the table. Everybody knows about RSPCA, so people mostly came up to give money or pet food, and chat. I think we collected about 30 pounds in two hours, which is not bad. They have an event in the Galleries on Saturday, I'll come and help them out there. Jess - their fundraisig coordinator, I was working with her today - is a very nice girl. I wanted to ask her but forgot - is RSPCA supported by the state at all? How did they get that fundraising agreement with Tesco? May be Tesco does that to enhance its "corporate responsibility" message.

I just thought that it might be a great idea to organise the same thing in Moscow, in big supermarkets. But I would not know how to convince them to do that, may be collect food for the rehomimg center and tell the supermarket that it'll increase their pet food sales... latinata , this is an idea for you, but am not at all sure it can be implemented in Moscow.

Stuff
Secirity guard in Tesco was bored to death, so of course he came up to me and started complaining about his life. I learnt some interesting things: he said that he knows people that come in the store to steal, they have been caught many times before, but he's not allowed to follow them. I think this is fair enough.
He also said that everything in the store is ensured, so his job is mostly a pretence, and he will definitely not chase a shop-lifter because the guy might be a nutter and stab or shoot him for a 5-pound flower-pot.
He said sonething else as well, but his accent was not good enough for me to understand him. He and his mate tried to guess where I was from, but did not succeed.

Yesterday I went to JJB sports store, while the shop-assistants were busy with buyers, a shop-lifter took several T-shirts, ran out of the store, straight into his car and drove off. One of the guys tried to catch him - no joy.
