Everything worked out for out loveley weekend away in the end! We didn't manage to leave until after 6, so as we were driving off into the sunset in The City, I commented that everyone was probably sitting down at the rehearsal dinner. Then I saw a street sign for Gun Hill Road, which made me laugh because Sue and Jay live on Gunn Mountain Road. We took a little detour then because my comment threw Paul off. I suppose this is why I am not a good navigator. Also, we followed a truck across the bridge that said "A. Duie Pyle!" Yes, I did get a picture, check my flickr later in the week to see. We arrived at our hotel around 11 and checked in.
Upon entering the room, it was quite noticable that it was not the non-smoking room I had reserved. It smelled of stale smoke and had an alarming amount of cigarette burn-holes in the comforter. Also, it did not appear to be, um, clean. I returned to the front desk to inquire about the availability of non-smoking rooms, as per my reservation. The fat guy behind the desk apathetically replied, "Sorry, we have nothing else available." I wanted to hop over the counter and drag him over to see the poo-hole that was out accomadations, but I just scowled at him and said "OK, whatever" and left. One of our lamps was not working at all. Maybe they didn't want to fix it because you have a harder time seeing the dirt when it's dim? Anyway, we had to go out for beer and Hot Pockets. I tried calling Sue and Jay to let them know we got in, but I got a busy signal at their hotel.
After driving around for a while and messing up on the roundabout, we ended up finding the quaintest little 7-11 ever, complete with a wooden facade and a huge sign that said "WORMS AND CRAWLERS." Of course, I got a picture. However, the place was closed, so we ended up finding our way back to Brattleboro and getting the roundabout right. We walked into the store around 12:30 and they did have Hot Pockets. We were unable to acquire the beer, though, because in Vermont it's illegal to sell alcohol after 11:45. Damn it! So we went back to America's Worst Inn and had to plug in our microwave. The outlet was hanging halfway out the wall. Nice. And safe, too! What a night!
Sue called in the morning to let me know when to meet her and Katie at the palace-o-hair, so we met up and got out hairs done. Sue also had her makeup done while Katie and I tried to figure out ours. We looked so nice! Sue dropped me off at Target, because I was meeting Paul there, but I couldn't find him in the store. I had him paged and he didn't come. I walked all around the parking lot, thinking he may be napping in the car, and did not find the car. I call the cell phone and went straight to voicemail. I was about to panic because we was running out of time to get ready and to the church. I called Jay and Sue to let them know I was stranded. Jay ended up making arrangements for his friend Bill to pick me up and take me to the hotel. I paged Paul and then he called me (why didn't I think of that before?) and said he had been waiting at the hotel for at least an hour and saw the limo driver but couldn't go anywhere because I had the key. Apparently what he heard was that Sue would bring me back, which he thought meant at the hotel, not Target. Anyway, we made it to the church before the wedding.
The ceremony was so nice. If I hadn't been holding all the flowers in front of everyone, I would have cried. It was so sweet! Then we got some pictures taken, hopped in the limo, got more pictures taken, went to the reception, had a lot of fun and amazingly good food... I may elaborate later, I'm just ready for bed now. So yeah, Sue and Jay are married! Yay!!! I am so happy for them!
