Ummm... Fingerbone

So here was the latest drama today. Paul was installing the new version of iTunes so I thought I was going to be late for work, but I was on time. I know the code for the door now! The new bus tags have the kids' name, class, and bus number, so yay! I love them! The computer was down though, so the bus lists were inaccessible, so we had to write down everyone's name who was supposed to be on the bus but was not.

As we were waiting for the OK to unload the buses, I heard a kid crying outside, followed by urget-sounding banging on the door. We are not supposed to open the doors before 1:15, so I let them knock again. I cracked the door and asked "Can I help you?" Turns out there was a little boy gushing blood from his lacerated finger because the bike rack "fell on him" after her "just touched it." Ummm, sure. Not likely that he was climbing on it, right? So we let him in to the bathroom while I ran around looking for a first aid kit. I found gloves and band-aids, so I just grabbed them and headed for the bathroom. Sure, my certification expired a year ago, but wrapping a finger in gauze must be better than his shirt, right? So the mom shows me the finger and it was splayed right open and I could see the bone. Ew.

"Well," I said, "I'm not putting this band-aid on. That would just make things worse. Can we get some gauze in here?" Just them my boss came in and said I couldn't do anything because the ambulance was on the way and they would have to do it, I wasn't allowed. Ummm, OK. "Hold his finger really really tight, don't let go of it!" I said to the mom as they went out to wait for the ambulance.

After a big sigh of relief, we unloaded the buses, learned about the letter B, let the kids use glue and scissors, had to remove a kid from the class because he wanted to hit the teacher, and came home. Grandma Coe is still alive but Sarah thinks it's only a matter of days, my father and his wife both have the whole week off and are upstate. Dad said he wanted to swing by on his way back home, but I don't know if he actually will, although he has yet to meet Leah and hasn't seen Dana since she was 2. Umm, that's all for now I guess. Now I'll watch the lemurs on Animal Planet!
