Happy Friday!

Today I woke up with no voice and thought about calling in to work, but I had forgotten to pick up my pay check and need some money. Also since my voice came back after breakfast my reason was gone, I was just tired. So when I got in I found out that 5 or 6 people had called in sick. It made me glad I had come in. So we had served the kids snack and I was sitting reading Sleeping Beauty to 3 of the girls when Geraldo came up to me with a problem. As I'm trying to find out what was going on with him, the girls are all interrupting and telling me to keep reading. I told them in a minute as I made Geraldo tell his story again, then good old Amelia decides it would be a good idea to yell at me to read... And as I was holding the book against my body to begin with, she punctuates her yell by smacking the book, therefore also me. I just about flipped out on her! I yelled "Stop hitting me!!! It's bad enough for you to be interrupting, but you KNOW you don't hit anyone, especially a teacher!" At this point I took a deep breath to keep from hitting her back or chucking her across the room or something equally rash. Then I said "You need to go sit at the table! Now!" So she gets up and goes to the table and starts crying. I was like "You made the choice, you're the one who was hitting." Alysia had been out of the room so she didn't see or hear anything that happened, so when she came back in she asked if Amelia was still sitting out from before snack or if she was sitting out again. Jen and I were like "Oh yeah, she's sitting out again."

At this point, Alexis came in and told me because so many people we out and we were in ratio, I would be doing breaks for the morning. I was glad to be out of the room because I didn't think I could deal with Amelia anymore. I have absolutely had it with that kid! She needs to get kicked out or something! Anyway, I went outside to give Ellen a half-hour break (both of the teachers in that room had called in sick, so it would have been me, who's worked there about a month and been in that classroom exactly once, and Patty, who's worked there like 3 weeks), but since she was leaving early she went in to tell them she wasn't taking a break. Then I had to go to one of the preschool rooms, and since they were outside, I basically spent the whole hour telling kids not to go up the slide and giving kids pushes on the swings. Then I went to do lunch in the 2 1/2-year-old room. This was followed by naptime, during which only 3 kids went to sleep and the rest played the "I have to go potty" game and peekaboo in their blankets. Then I went to the other pre-K to try to get them to take a nap. I was only successful in getting one kid to sleep, but it was not the kid who really really really had to take a nap. Then one kid... I told him to put his head at the other end of his mat to keep him from talking to his friend, and he said to me "No way!" I was like "Did you just tell me no way?!" So we moved him and he was in big trouble. As though this kid is not always in trouble.

Then I got to take my lunch break, which was nice for a change. And Cristen was in there, which was nice. I brought in my ringmaking kit and showed her the one I made last night. She asked if I would make her one, so I said "Sure, I've got nothing else to do for half an hour. And you deserve a new ring!" So she picked out the colors and I went to work. She even gave me 50 cents for it! It was a little big, but she said she's always wanted a thumb ring. When I went back to my classroom, I found out the class had gotten a sticker for the morning. I celebrated, but also realized the rules must have changed because of the morning incident... for which we had to fill out an incident report. Anyway, the rest of the day went pretty well, and then Paul brought Dana in to check out the book fair. She didn't want to stay there and look at books though, so I took her to get my stuff. She wanted to stop and check out all the other kids and the classroom and tell me that the fishy was swimming and that she liked the dollhouse. She also wanted to climb into the big stroller with the other little kids, but she wasn't allowed. She didn't want to go home, and she told me she was tired but didn't want to go home. La de da... pretty uneventful at home, which was nice for a change. I colored and cut out my shapes for an activity next week and haven't done much since then. It took a while. Now it's time to get a drink and go to bed. Blah.
