What a day....

Today was some day. We knew we were in for it because it was supposed to rain all day, and having all the kids in the classroom all day is never fun. Then Jen took her break when we were ready to start learning centers, and we had the new girl, Patricia, doing her break. So we let her do art since it usually pretty much runs itself. So we did our first groups and then I helped her clean hers up cause she was helping the kids wash their hands. Anyway, then Jen came back from break and we switched groups. Alysia went over to do art so Jen could do Prep books since she refuses to do art. So I was getting my group ready to start and 2 of the kids were fighting. Maddy thought it was Jack's fault that she had paint on her shirt and Jack asked if he could go play instead of doing journals. Then I got everyone sitting and Jack suddenly said he didn't feel good. I told him we would do our journals and then we could play when we were done, which usually gets him working. So I wrote his name on his paper in highlighter so he could trace it and told him to get a crayon. Jack was completely spaced out. His brother Thomas was sitting across from him on the other side of me and thought Jack was playing. So everyone was trying to get Jack to perk up and do journals so they could play, but he was completely zoned out like he didn't hear us at all. He was kind of leaning over and started looking really sick, I thought he was just going to barf all over or something so I called Alysia over. Jen came too and felt his forehead and he was totally burning up. Alysia picked him up and carried him out to put him in the sick bed to call his parents cause she also thought he was going to be sick.

We tried to get everyone back to work so we could get all the centers done before lunch, but it was hard because we had 3 that needed to be supervised and Alysia was filling out some sick kid forms and trying to contact his parents. After a few minutes she came back in and I asked how Jack was feeling. She told me he just had a seizure, so Jen and I were trying not to freak out. We put Thomas in the other pre-K and told him Miss Tracy needed a special helper, but we just didn't want him to see the ambulance and our classroom is right by the main entrance. Then we rounded up all the other kids and sat them down in the housekeeping area with their backs to the main entrance and sang songs with them until the ambulance pulled away. Their dad came and picked up Thomas and followed Jack's ambulance to the hospital. They think the fever caused the seizure and Jack seemed really normal again after the seizure. We're getting more updates tomorrow. We've all been worried all day though.

Then I didn't even get to go home after work because I had to go to the child abuse workshop. I didn't even get home until 10:30. And it's been a torrential downpour all day. Arrrgh! So now I may just lie in bed and zone out until I fall asleep. It's been quite the day! and Dana went to sleep without her comforter tonight! It's nuts!
