Today one of my students had a really rough day. When we pulled in to the parking lot the first thing I saw was Amelia's face in the window, crying her eyes out. When I got onto the room she was still crying, so I went over to see what the problem was. She said "I just want my daddy!" She was also picking at her scab again. She settled down eventually and had such a good day she got to go visit her baby brother in the infants' room. Later the class went outside but I was out with another class. It turns out one of her friends asked her to move and Amelia didn't move. So her friend kicked her in the face. She was fine, but they had to fill out an incident report for the parents to sign. When her mom came to pick her up, she was coloring a Scooby-Doo picture and I gave her the incident report. The mom said "Oh my goodness, what happened?" Amelia was cool as a cucumber, didn't even look up from her picture, and said "Alexis kicked me in the face." I almost busted out laughing! Then the mom left to get the baby brother and I saw Amelia quickly back into the bathroom and shut the door behind her. I knew something was up, but I really didn't know what the deal was. She stayed in the bathroom the whole time her mom was gone. She came back and said "Where's Amelia?" She pokes her head out and whispers "I had an accident!" She was so completely soaked that she had to change EVERYTHING she had on, shirt included. I had to find out where we kept the plastic bags. I can only hope tomorrow goes better for poor little Amelia!
I got to teach some of the kids how to play Candyland today. After one of the boys finished, I asked the others if they wanted to keep playing. I ended up putting down the stack of cards because I had like 5 kids to check out. One of the other boys knocked the pile of cards over and made a huge mess, and another started crying his eyes out because he wanted to keep playing. He was soooo upset! He's one of my favorite kids, too, kind of reminds me of my cousin Alex. He can be a troublemaker but he's really sweet. I felt so bad for him! He ended up getting out Chutes and Ladders, having nobody to play with, and coloring me a picture of Scooby Doo.
Paul had to go to school early for a staff meeting. I was just getting ready to go down for breakfast when he left. Before school started, his principal likened his work with the orchestra o walking on water. He was delighted, but when I had asked him initially how his day was, he said his usualy "OK." He is so weird sometimes!
Ha-ha of the day: One of the girls in my class is adopted, and last year one of the other parents in the class was pregnant. She said something about she was going to have a baby, and the girl said "Why don't you just go get one from Korea? That's what my mom did!"
