And now he was gone, and there was nothing left to fulfill her cravings of sudden soft kisses in between cold mockery and harsh looks.
Kate knew that something was going to change on the island, and soon. She had been feeling it for a few days now. Something was off, something was wrong, something was coming. It was even more obvious today. And she didn’t have any fight left in her. She didn’t care. All she was was Leto’s, and now that Leto was no more, there was nothing left to be had. Nothing left to care for.
She had told him she always followed him. Now she was going to follow him this one last time.
Kate stepped into Leto’s room and stood at the foot of his bed, just as she had the day before. She had the broken-off leg of a chair in her hand. She was already screaming when the wood pierced her chest and went into her heart. Not because of the pain; because of the void inside. The scream held all her agony.
And then the scream was cut short, and dust fell on the floor, silent.
