It was a late hour when night finally chased the light from the sky, ready to reign once more. The vampires were growing hungry and in need of errant humans to stalk. All should choose wisely where they roam and learn from those who fell before them.

Gavin didn't want to be in town tonight. It was too far from the dorms, too far from the blood he so desperately wanted to draw tonight. So, he was skulking around the school, lurking in shadows and just waiting.

Oh, there was that vampire who looked a little too much like him for comfort. Leto kept a distance. "Have you seen Zack? Or Ender?"

"I don't keep tabs on your toys, Leto," Gavin said, giving the other vampire a cursory glance. "Isn't Zack usually chewing on a ball somewhere?"

"Yes, but not in his usual places." Really, why else would he have asked.

Leto hesitated for a moment, then added: "Have you noticed anyone acting strangely?"

"A dumb blonde tried to throw me out of the common area yesterday," Gavin told him since he thought that was pretty damn dumb. "And then I threw her into a wall."

That had been fun.

"Never mind." Leto did not roll his eyes. He could control himself better than that. Taking a few steps back, he said: "Good luck." The sarcasm wasn't quite audible.

"Aww, did I not give you an easy answer?" Gavin asked, not moving. "Too bad. Little Leto can't find his toys."

"I didn't expect you to be perceptive enough," Leto retorted. "And as you're clearly busy..." He spun around to leave.

Gavin laughed and really wished Leto wasn't a damn vampire so he could have some fun with him. Watching his own face get all twitchy and blank would be interesting.

Coming back from burning Hurley's remains, Parker and Isabel were really, really not in the mood to deal with someone on school grounds. Typical that the place would have extra that night.

Parker grimaced. "Gavin. Getting thirsty yet?"

"I'm always thirsty," he said easily, smiling thinly. "It's just my choice of drink that differs."

"I'd kill for a beer," Parker realized. "Well, not you, Isabel. Him, though." Parker loosed a crossbow bolt toward Gavin, aiming for the heart. "Easy."

Gavin could have predicted that and he slipped easily out of the way, disappearing into a shadow for the moment.

"That was sloppy, Parker," he called, voice pleasant. "A child could have seen that shot coming.
