Kahakai means 'beach' in Hawaiian and this beachside bar features a Polynesian-style thatched roof, refreshing trade winds and billion dollar views of Mauna Kea and the blue Pacific. A variety of tropical libations and mouth-watering pupu (appetizers) are served.

Dolf was a manly man (shut up, stop laughing) and wasn't going to opt for any of the millions of cocktails they had on the menu. However, he was also a distinctly underage manly man, which meant his options were a little limited.

"I'll have a cola," he informed the barman, flopping down into a seat. "And a-- uh, pupu?"

No, he didn't get why anyone would think the name was funny.

This was very quickly becoming a routine, wasn't it, Kate at this bar in the evening?

Tonight, there were two differences in comparison to the previous two nights, though. One, Kate was wearing cut off shorts and a tank top instead of the sundress. She didn't want to get predictable, and besides, the shorts showed off her legs a little more. Always a plus.

And two, she'd started with the alcoholic drinks straight away. Tuesday seemed like a good day to get a little tipsy when the Wednesday that followed wasn't a work day, right? And that had nothing at all to do with wishing to drown any jealousy or anything. Nothing at all.

Ariel hadn't talked to Kate in a while, and, hey, some bar in a tropical paradise seemed a great time because everything had to be good in a tropical paradise, right?

So there she was, offering up a smile before sipping at her drink. "Hey, Kate. Isn't this fantastic?"

Everything had to be just great in a tropical paradise, of course.

Except when you were Kate and kind of permanently not fine these days. Oh well. She was a little tipsy and an excellent fake. "Better than the Bahamas," she decided. "It's pretty awesome. All the.... water and stuff."

Or something.

"And the sand," Ariel offered, "and the warmth and the sun and the mountains and the palm trees and the food and the drinks and the little umbrellas...."

She trailed off with a grin at Kate. "I'll go on if I have to."

Which was a warning of you better be having a good time or else, Ariel-style.

Kate tried for a smile, but her eyes were a little narrow in the wrong way for it to come off as completely authentic in the cheer department.

"I think I get the idea," she drawled. "No further listing of things needed."

"Anything in particular you're looking forward to tomorrow?"

Hey, even an inauthentic smile was still something...

"Not hanging around the beach," Kate said, rather decisively. No reason. "I think maybe I'll take the shuttle and go check out some of the shops."

"Ooh, yes!" Ariel brightened. "That's a great idea; there's a lot of fantastic shops, I checked some of them out today and got a lot of really neat stuff! Why no beach?" She tilted her head. "Too much sun?"

"Too many people," Kate replied smoothly, wrinkling her nose. "or the wrong people, or something like that. I just don't care much for it right now."

Ariel's head bobbed as if in agreement, although she didn't think she could ever get sick of the beach. "Well, you'll have to let me know if you find anything particular good while you're out shopping."

"Will do." That sounded a bit insincere, if only because Kate didn't think their tastes met too much. "So, I guess you've been enjoying yourself here?"

More than her, anyway. Even if she was doing just fine right now. Really.

"Kind of hard not to," Ariel said with a shrug. "It's beautiful, it's warm, it reminds me a little bit of home."

Only a lot drier.

"And it's nice to not have to go to classes or work and to just enjoy it, too, y'know?"

Kate shrugged. "I don't know, tomorrow would've been my shift at the theater, and I actually like doing that. But I'm not arguing with you about the classes."

Leo had been in and out of delinquent schools his whole life, it's not like he had never had alcohol before, but he was still sort of a goody two-shoes at heart. So he was at the bar for lack of anything better to do but he was sipping on a coke and eating the appetizers after laughing at the name waaaaay too much.
