The gateway between London and Rita's hometown. The pub was built by Daisy Dodderidge around 1500 ""to serve as a gateway between the non-wizarding world and Diagon Alley (fw32)."

Parker, Rory, Marty, Angela, and Xander were stuck wandering the Charing Cross district, looking for the Leaky Cauldron.

So far, no luck.

"How hard can it be to find *one* magical pub?"

Zero wandered up. Amazing how even in a big city like London, people can still bump into each other, isn't it? "Well, fancy meetin' you lot here."

Diagon Alley, a long cobbled street where is to be found a strange and exciting assortment of shops and restaurants, some of which have tables outside with brightly colored umbrellas.

Walter expected that Victor would join him eventually in Diagon Alley. In the meantime, he was going to be taking advantage of being on his own to get some shopping done that you couldn't just do on the internet.

His first stop netted him a carefully packaged box with an astronomical model inside. He also picked up a wizard's chess set for Alfred, a model dragon for Victor, a fanged frisbee for Pup, a pocket sneakoscope for himself, three decks of self-shuffling playing cards, and a nose-biting teacup.

There were a bunch of things there that seemed really exciting, but wouldn't work for him. He wondered why he kept hearing the word "muggle."

A man all in black with an exceedingly unpleasant demeanor blusters down the street muttering about how "standards are going down around here" and that they're letting in "just anybody".

Walter noticed, but what was he going to say? Hey! Wash your hair!? Not likely.

And unlike the mun, he does not squee.

Slugs & Jiggers Apothecary mparkerceo March 5 2006, 10:16:12 UTC
The Apothecary sells potion ingredients. It's a fascinating shop crammed with all sorts of interesting things. There are barrels of slimy stuff lined up on the floor and jars of all sorts of powders, herbs, and the like along the walls. Bundles of feathers, fangs, and claws hang from the ceiling. The whole place smells very bad, a mixture of bad eggs and rotten cabbage. The name of this shop is Slug & Jiggers Apothecary.

Angela? So not touching anything here.

Okay. Maybe a little. Cautiously, she opens a jar of foul-smelling herbs and sniffs the inside, making a face as she does.

Rory eyed the shop as she entered, wrinkling her nose. "Okay, ew."

Xander just out and out held his nose. At least for a second, til it started to hurt. "Well, I'll say one thing for it: if we're looking for something that came from inside a goat? This is so the place."

When you need a break-- get your chocolate-and-raspberry with nuts here.

Zero came out of Knockturn Alley looking slightly haggard, with a miniature giraffe following her. She headed straight for the ice cream parlor. After that, she needed chocolate. "Right," she asked the Parker-giraffe. "What do you want?"

Parker put her teeny hooves-- which still had silver nail polish on them-- on the glass, then licked the space above the White Chocolate Mocha ice cream, and looked back up at Zero pitifully, blinking.

"You're strangely adorable right now," Zero told the wee giraffe, then asked the friendly-looking man behind the counter, "Could I get a scoop of the White Chocolate Mocha in a dish for my long-necked friend here, and a--does that say tomato?--a scoop of chocolate-chocolate cookie for me?"

"Of course, Miss. That'll be three galleons, two sickles."

Zero fumbled out her handful of coins and stared at them. "Um."

The man asked, "You're not from around here, are you?"

"Not exactly."

"Three of the gold ones, two silver." Zero handed over the coins, and he told her to take her miniature giraffe and wait at a table. Zero picked a table by the street and started that way.

Manager is a bit brusque, but then he has to deal with strange and bothersome things like books that bite (The Monster Book of Monsters), books that are completely invisible (The Invisible Book of Invisibility), and book signings by Gilderoy Lockhart, who draws quite a crowd which can get a bit unruly at times.

Books are books. From whichever world. So it's hardly surprising that Elizabeth is almost immediately drawn there, and spends far too long wandering around there, looking at things in amazement.
