There was no time like the present to get out and shop, discover, or tour your way through New York City. The front desk of the hotel was willing to provide information on the best spots for whatever anyone was looking for!

Loki didn't really give a fuck about the hotel but this was a place that caught his eye. He'd lived through most of this fucking history, he wanted to see if they got it right.

He was a finicky angel. Besides, museums were like breeding grounds for entertaining humans that he could possibly bother and annoy into making him laugh.

He was also a bastard.

Tyler hadn't followed Loki from the hotel, but he didn't fall back the way he often did when he realized he was going to the same place as someone he knew, either. Natural History was a fucking great museum, and he didn't mind company in the shape of Loki, if he wanted to go through it together.

"Loki," he greeted, catching up. "On your way to the butterfly conservatory?"

He was kidding, but the bitch of it was ... he kind of wanted to see the butterflies himself.

Loki had to rush to renew his paid account omg NO ICONS! stopped when he recognized Tyler's voice and let the other man catch up before saying anything.

"You know me so well," Loki said, rolling his eyes good naturedly. "After that, I was thinking of popping out a few kids and settling down in the fucking country."

"Butterflies make you pregnant?" Tyler asked, deliberately misunderstanding. "Gosh, and here I thought we'd have to go find a cabbage patch to get some kids."

"I wasn't aware you wanted to be a bad version of a terrible 80's sitcom with me, Tyler," Loki joked, shaking his head. "Butterflies weren't on the top of my list for this place but I figure I'll stop by. Maybe set a few free."

Okay, he wouldn't do that. Probably not.

And oh, what joy that would bring.

He went over to a rack of pamphlets and took one out to look at the map. "What was at the top of your list?"

Loki decided he'd just peer over Tyler's shoulder to look at his map before pointing at one of the exhibits he'd come to see.

"Diamonds, of course," he told him, grinning. "After that, the fossil halls. Always fun to see your ancestors, ain't it?"

"Diamonds?" They weren't exactly at the top of Tyler's list, but hell, big rocks were cool. "Sure. Diamonds. Looks like it's over this way. And then the fossils."

He started walking in the appropriate direction. "So what have you been up to, anyhow?"

"I like to see what I can't have," he admitted, shrugging. "Plus, some of those diamonds are fucking huge."

He'd seen a few whoppers in his time so comparing and contrasting was a fun activity for him.

"Not much," he continued, shrugging. "Things get a little fucking boring during the winter break. Decided I'd fill some time by teaching next semester. It's the school's own damn fault for letting me come back."

"I've never been here," Tyler said, shrugging back. "I've seen the ones at the Smithsonian, that's it."

Which was not an objection. And, ordinarily, he would have said something about engagement rings, but the chances that would lead to him being teased about his 'wedding' were about 50-50. So.

"They'll hire anybody these days," he said with a tiny smile. "I thought I saw your name on the rosters. What's your class about?"

"People and how much they suck except when they won't," he said, not one to mince words. Going into detail had to wait because a small child bounced off his hip and rocketed away before Loki could even curse.

"Anyway," he said, glaring in that direction, "it's just about dealing with different types of people. Can't have too much experience in that, right?"

Tyler shook his head as he glared at the child's mother. "It's called a stroller," he noted under his breath. The kid was probably too big for a stroller, but so what?

"Definitely not," he said, to Loki this time. "I tend to figure you can assume they'll suck, and then when somebody's nice you get a pleasant surprise."

"Lately? Not really," Tyler said as they arrived at the hall of gems. "'sbeen pretty quiet this month." Not counting that first weekend, anyhow, and that was not to be discussed. "I'm done with science for a couple months, anyhow. Teaching philosophy this time."
