Field trip to Normandy, All day Friday

May 30, 2008 19:27

The bus travelled quickly, maybe more quickly that anyone expected, and was soon pulling into the town of Bayeux.

It's the first stop of what promises to be a very full day. Enjoy!

Morning in Bayeux idontlooktired May 30 2008, 09:33:17 UTC
It's a beautiful Bayeux morning, and there's no end of things to do and see.

There's the Bayeux Tapestry, the Bayeux Cathedral, art galleries and gardens, souvenirs and sightseeing, museums and chateaus.

It was the first human artifact G'Kar had ever seen with his own eyes. The fact that it was beautifully handstiched was even more intriguing. He walked along its length, jotting down notes in a fresh, blank journal he'd brought specifically for the day. It wouldn't remain blank for very long.

Ella glanced at G'Kar out of the corner of one eye as she walked along the tapestry. She was fairly sure he'd come from Fandom with the group, and it wasn't as though he was easily mistaken for another.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" she asked quietly.

"Yes it is," he replied, looking up for the source of the voice. He smiled when he spotted Ella. "Have you ever seen it before?"

Ella didn't know anything about the history of this world, so she opted for the guided tour.

It all made her sad and thoughtful.

Evening at the markets in Caen idontlooktired May 30 2008, 09:38:03 UTC
The bus brought the Fandomites right to the night markets at Fosse St-Julien. Part farmer's market, part craft fair, part food festival, there's no shortage of things to see and buy here.

Be sure to grab some dinner while you explore!

After the tour, Ella was happier to have some lighter entertainment. She got some mussels and a piece of crusty bread, and sat at a picnic table to devour them.

Hoshi practiced speaking to the locals in French. A nice older couple recommended a local specialty to try for dinner.

G'Kar found a nice out of the way place to eat. He got a few odd looks from the staff, he told them he was part of an acting troupe. They seemed to accept it, but still kept their distance.

He also had picked up several bottles of wine. Those would be put away for later use.

Aaand, that's it! Have fun, and figure that the Fandomites would be getting back to the island sometime after ten pm.
