Jaime couldn't honestly say why he ended up at the local winesink, or why he remained there. On the plus side of this entire little adventure, the place did not reek of piss or blood ( Read more... )

"Are the bears still wrestling? I didn't miss anything, did I?" Terry asked as he ran back into the bar. He was here a few minutes ago, but needed to run out to get a camera so he could have proof for Max that insane things like this happened.

Well.

Jaime looked from the boy, to the bears, back to the boy, bears... and plucked up his wine cup again for a long drink. "This is the second strangest bear fight I've ever seen."

"No way. What could possibly be stranger than tiny bears wrestling on a bar while that guy's serving drinks?" Terry asked, gesturing toward Tino.

"It involved a maid in a silk gown against a bear, armed only with a tourney sword." All of those things made perfect sense, Terry. "It may not sound as strange as this, but you should have seen how this maid looked in a dress."

"It definitely loses something without the visual," Terry noted. "Maybe if the bear was wearing a dress, too..."

And then one of the tiny bears put the other in an adorable headlock. "Wait, no! This one would still win."

And now Terry knew how to put a bear in a headlock if it ever needed to.

Knew how to put a beat in a headlock. Or, you know, more realistically, knew how to get clawed to death by an angry, angry bear.

Westeros didn't believe in Batman, Terry.

"Why aren't they mauling each other?" he had to ask. Just had to.

"I'm sure there's some good reason for it," Terry said. "But a wise old man once told me, 'Terry, weird things happen there. Just accept it and focus on more important matters.' So I think I'm going to stick to that advice."

Yes, he did an impression of Bruce when he was quoting the old man. It was not very good. But it sounded old, which was close enough.

"Things more important that the battles of bears?" Jaime promptly, watching as the other bear wriggled free to circle it's foe. "I'm certain nothing is more important than that."

"I'll be honest, I kind of agree with you," Terry noted. "But then I remember my studies."I mean, you can study any time. How often do you get to see this?"

"I'd venture to say not terribly often."

Because tiny bears. Tiny, tiny bears.

"If we had this kind of thing back in my world, I wouldn't have had any reason to come here," Terry said.

Except for the old man telling him to go through the portal now.

"Maybe there's one, but I try to avoid it," Terry mused. "It's a little sketchy."

And it only showed up if the Stalker was in town.

"Sketchy," Jaime repeated, as if trying out the word. "Well, we can't have that."

He could drawn conclusions based on context. Try not to be shocked.

"You said you've seen at least one other bear fight. How often does that kind of thing happen back home?" Terry asked.

"It's... much smaller for one," Jaime replied. "And far less blood."
