Third Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

Aug 01, 2010 19:08

It'd been a pretty long time since the last time Dolf had set his eyes on a TV. He found himself almost immediately defaulting to the floor, legs drawn up for comfort so he wouldn't numb anything too quickly.

He reached for the remote, and at least he hadn't forgotten how that worked-- pointed it at the TV and clicked it on. Immediately, sound and ( Read more... )

Having free reign of the castle was just one of the many adjustments Micah was having to make. Having been a servant at Camelot he found the idea of no servants somewhat alien. Possibly more so than a noble would have.

Then there were these rooms. Filled with things that perplexed, and even frightened him. How was it so cold in the white cabinet?

He'd never actually seen the television on before so please forgive the gaping.

Dolf had experienced quite some gaping in his time, and that had just been over the few tiny things he'd had on him. So the presence of someone staring like that in the room didn't really throw him off; instead he turned his head up, and the rest of his body with it, and said with a practiced ease, "It's just a play in a box."

Micah had heard tales of the Fair Folk, but never thought he would see them. Of course until he'd met Merlin he never would have believed he'd meet him either.

"How did you capture them?" he asked. He didn't ask about the game they were playing in there. That seemed rather secondary to the first question. Suppose they escaped and were angry?

"They're not captured," Dolf said, pointing at the screen. He was used to improvising like this. "They're there of their own free will, and when they're done, they leave to make room for the next one, see?"

He was lucky there were commercials on, as the screen shifted from one for pasta to one for tea.

Incredible! "How do they get in and out?" he asked without thinking. But oh, that was a stupid question. Magic of course. "Never mind, foolish question. I've never heard of Fair Folk performing this way. Don't they usually resent mortal observers?"

"I'm not sure what the Fair Folk are," Dolf said. Really, you'd think he'd be more careful after nearly getting executed for heresy, but... apparently not. "But that's not them. That's just... people. They can make more of themselves and send it everywhere. To perform. They get paid well for it."

"At that size what else would they be but Faeries?" Micah asked, confused.
