Roof, Evening

Mar 16, 2010 20:53

She had been standing there the whole day. Or rather, she had been walking all over the roof since morning, taking her time to peek down now and then like a little kid wondering what would happen if something fell that high. In any kid's case, their parents would obviously teach him/her to keep a safe distance and probably make an example of how ( Read more... )

Triela had spent the past few weeks getting more and more restless. The Conditioning kept her generally calm, but that wasn't the same thing at all. So she'd grabbed a bag from the back of her closet and decided to head for the roof.

Fortunately she didn't have any ridiculous wardrobe-related orders from the Agency at the moment, so she could just wear a comfortable (some might say overly-formal) jacket.

Noticing someone else, Cameron took a couple of seconds to look at her. She didn't get much of it though, as the girl was rather...regular. Of course, it was Cameron judging, so it didn't really matter how the girl looked like.

"Did you make a wish?" Maybe others were more creative when it came to shooting stars.

Triela cocked her head eeeever so slightly to once side, eying Cameron a bit curiously. "No. I'm not really the wishing sort. What about you?"

People tend to stare at Cameron; she didn't really managed to notice it though. "Are there sorts?" Maybe she shouldn't have made a wish. "I want to see John, make sure he is alright." It was her mission anyway.

Triela had to smile at that. "Ah. Now that's a feeling I know." She shrugged. "As to sorts, don't there have to be? I mean, with people being different and everything..."

Cameron did give her a blatant stare now. "What feeling?" The idea her words might be interpreted in more than one way was a possibility, but she didn't have the imagination to realize what else could Triela had understood.

"I see; thanks for explaining." Cameron looked up to the starry night again. "People find clear skies with starts romantic." Or so she had heard, but she had no idea why.

"Wanting to see someone to make sure they're alright," Triela elaborated. "I know what that feels like."

"And I've heard that, but I don't really see the appeal myself."

Silent stares were her thing, really. "Oh, thanks for explaining." And so certain phrases. "I don't feel; keeping John safe is my main mission." She knew he was alright, since the place was more than safe, but that didn't matter.

"I don't understand why people think that." It was just air and humidity and the ozone layer and the outer space. No big deal.

Triela's eyebrows rose in something more than polite interest. "Main mission, huh? But you don't have any feelings about it?" That was... interesting.

"As for why people think that..." she trailed off with a shrug. "People are odd. They find significance in all sorts of things." She glanced up into the sky for a moment. "I suppose in a purely aesthetic sense, it is a rather pleasing view."

If Cameron were a person, she would have shrugged. "I don't have feelings, period." She was as neutral as always, since she didn't really mind sharing this; it might even help the girl understand her better.

"People are odd." Yeah, she could agree to that. A lot. Looking up once more, she tried to relate it to images of other things that resulted pleasing to see by humans; she got an inconclusive result of that. "...Maybe."

"Why not?" Triela asked, idly curious. The Agency would probably be interested in something like that, after all.

"Very odd." It bore repeating.

The look on Cameron's eyes wasn't neutral anymore, but defining it would prove to be rather...impossible. "A person has emotions; I'm not a person." And as she spoke her eyes flashed light blue, since speaking only wasn't probably good enough to make a point.

But the sky had her attention. "Even after reaching it, they keep saying the sky is the limit; there are no real limits in the space." They liked to make no sense.

Huh. Triela made a mental note to pursue that in more detail later, but the non-human part made it unlikely to be immediately useful to the Agency.

"I think that's the point. When people say 'the sky is the limit', I think they mean that there is no limit." Or... something like that. English metaphors were often confusing.

The fact Triela didn't answer was interesting; she didn't inquire though; she would say whatever she wanted when she felt like.

"Really? That's a contradiction..." Metaphors of any kind were confusing. "What would be the proper way to say it. There is no limits?"

"I think saying what you mean defeats the entire purpose of a metaphor, doesn't it?"

The woman had a point. "That's why metaphors are unnecessary." Cameron's attention went to Triela's bag then, and even when she didn't speak, it was obvious she was trying to figure out what was inside.
