It was quieter if you went higher up in the dorms. He could still pick up the sounds from the floor below, but they were background noise and at least he was away from the stink of certain students.

Makita didn't stink at least and Jacob entered the room, curious as he'd thought no one else'd be up here. "A ball pit. Seriously?"

Makita shrugged. "Guess so," she answered, swinging her feet to kick up balls. "Why? What's wrong with it?"

"Nothing. They're just not standard high school equipment," he pointed out. He squatted down beside and idly picked up one of the balls, tossing it up and catching it again.

"I'm Jacob Black, by the way," he said, holding out a hand. "Nice to meet you."

"Yeah, but standard's boring," she pointed out, giving him a lopsided grin as she held out her hand. The subtle flicking of her eyes wasn't her checking him out like that -- she did have manners. Somewhere -- but the evaluation of a potential ally or threat. "Makita."

"And this school is anything but standard," he agreed. His hand was hot, too hot as he shook hers. He could be a threat. He had the size and built for it, but he was in as good a mood as he'd be getting now. "You don't need a ball pit to figure that one out."

"Nah, but it's a fun hint." Wow, really warm, which made her more alert than the size. Everyone was bigger than Maki; that just meant they left a bigger dent in the ground when they fell over.

She leaned back, planting her hands on the side of the pit to give her the right leverage to kick up another big spray of colorful plastic. "Besides, I bet the world would be a better place if every school had a ball pit. I mean, how can you stay pissed off at someone when you have plastic toys to throw?"

He could think of a few occasions where a plastic toy wouldn't be nearly enough.

"And they bounce," he said instead before he tossed the ball he was holding lightly at her.

Come on, the indignity of Edward Cullen getting smacked in the face with a bright blue ball would be hilarious therapy

Her left hand snapped up to catch it much faster than your average human would be able to manage. "Yeah. And if you're feeling mean, you prick a hole in it, and fill it with water. Surprise squirt gun."

Well, if you put it like that...

He raised an eyebrow, not having expected the speed from her. "I like the way you think," he said as he jumped in the pit. He was standing waist deep in bright plastic balls. Heh.

"Bet you'd get a pretty decent aim of the entrance from here," he motioned towards the window.

Makita pursed her lips, tilting her head as she considered the window. "Yeah. We could always set up a targeting system with mirrors. Throw from here, with the ammo, and no one can see us from the ground."

She'd thought about this way more than he had, obviously. No surprise there.

"That's not a bad idea," he said and he grinned as he considered the window. "You think up these things a lot, do you?"

Makita grinned, and it wasn't completely sweet or innocent. "Maybe. Ambushes are fun, you know?"

...it was possible that Maki's sense of 'fun' was slightly skewed.

He blinked, but then shrugged his shoulder. A girl who liked ambushes or a werewolf. He was still winning the weirdness contest.

"Sure sure," he agreed and he grabbed a hand full of the bright plastic balls. "So are you going to just sit there or what?"

She was getting another ball tossed at her. Followed right by another one. If there was going to be a ball pit, he was going to take advantage of it, dammit.

Makita whooped and dove into the pit, lunging for his knees to try and knock him backwards.

It was on.

Jacob laughed and it was more surprise and because it was much more fun to have the pit spill over, then it was to stay upright.

There were balls bouncing all over the place now and Jacob was happy to throw whatever ball he could reach down at her. (Not too hard. He had to remember. He wasn't mucking around with Quil and Embry.)

"Much better!" he snickered.

Makita chucked a ball at his forehead. "What, did you think I wouldn't?"
