Arnie's was buzzing as Cameron and Ferguson entered the hall. Basic Cadet Training had lasted longer than expected, but apparently that was part of the training as well. A lot seemed to be part of the training and Cameron's shoulders were still aching from everything they'd gone through at The Beast. Even with all the exercises and morning runs, he still was sore in places he didn't realise he had. It was quickly forgotten however as the hall smelled of food and his stomach was growling as he hadn't had time to eat a whole lot that morning. Food could wait however.
"I got to do something," he said, briefly touching Ferguson's shoulder to get his attention before moving off towards the pay phones.
Ferguson smirked at him, having heard enough about how Cameron needed to call Veronica as training had lasted longer than the foreseen date and Cameron had been antsy about calling for the last couple of days.
Ignoring his friend, Cameron found the telephone furthest away from any noise coming from the hall. He didn't need the little paper with numbers on as he dialed the Alumni network and Veronica's number. It rang once before it changed over;
This number can not be connected as dialed. Please check your listing and try again.
Blinking, he hung up the telephone and redialed, figuring he must have hit the wrong number.
This number can not be connected as dialed. Please check your listing and try again.
No... he got it right this time. With a sinking feeling, Cameron pulled his wallet out of his pocket and this time dialed the number as he'd written them down.
This number can not be connected as dialed. Please...
Right. Different one; Crichton's.
This number can not be connected as dialed...
Molly's.
This number can not...
Principal Washburn's.
This number...
Shit. He slammed the telephone back on the horn and stared at it, willing it to behave.
He tried the last number again.
This number can not be connected as...
"Cam?"
"What?" Cameron snapped, hanging up again. This wasn't happening. It really wasn't.
"You okay, man? You look like you're about to strangle that telephone," Ferguson remarked, keeping a safe distance.
"I'm fine," Cameron replied automatically, not that he expected Ferguson to buy it.
"Uh huh."
"None of the numbers I've tried calling seem to work," he explained.
"Seriously?" Ferguson frowned. "That's weird." He stepped forward, taking the paper from Cameron. "Dude, no wonder. Have you looked at these numbers? That isn't an area code."
"It's from Fandom," Cameron sighed as he tried the telephone again. This number...
"Right..." Ferguson said slowly in that tone he'd been using every time Cameron had tried to tell him about some of the things that had happened there.
"Don't give me that," Cameron snapped, tired of the tone.
Ferguson shook his head and handed the paper back to Cameron. "You should try calling your parents," he suggested, heading back towards their table.
Cameron ignored him and redialed again.
This number can not be connected...
((So not open for interaction. OOC comments definitely loved though.))
