Piper stared at her cellphone for a very long time. She was debating whether to call Chris back or not. She could just ignore this until it goes away, right?

Melinda found her Daddy's cellphone. And she managed to find "Piper" in the contact list.

So now she was bouncing as she called her mother.

"Bel?" Piper said, recognizing the phone number. "Please tell me we don't have a kid together?"

"Mommy!" Melinda said happily. "Where are you why aren't you here?"

This would be Piper dropping the phone and flailing, taking out part of the wall in the process. "Dammit, not again!"

She sighed and reached for the phone. Ignoring the child was not going to help. "Um...hello. I'm in Neptune because I go to school nearby. Where's your dad?"

Melinda giggled. "You're silly, Mommy. Daddy Cole is Daddy."

She paused for a moment. "What's your name?"

Suddenly, she felt like the worst parent ever.

Coq au vin? This was definitely her kid. "Well, if you eat your carrots and potatoes, you can have a cookie."
