Outside the Labyrinth, Friday Evening, One Hour After The Previous Post

Dec 10, 2010 14:17

It seemed the time for research and planning was through. In Jareth's address to the island, he gave them twenty-four hours to traverse a Labyrinth that seemed to change on a whim and take back the friends that he had stolen. Well, what he didn't know was that their will was as strong as his, and their access to weaponry was better. He wanted a ( Read more... )

Medusalith
"This maze is ridiculous," Medusalith muttered. "Even Lockjaw couldn't navigate it." She was actually kind of wishing she'd brought the dog right about now. Unlike most humans, she was one hundred percent certain she could count on him, and despite being incredibly dopey, he was a mastiff-type creature the size of a pony, with commensurately large teeth. It seemed like that could be useful.

Cassidy
Cassidy was listening to everyone as she walked and she had to agree with Tahiri. "I can't even use basic Craft in here," she said quietly as she looked at a wall that she was sure one of them had marked before. "I can't sense anyone around at all, and that's strange since you guys are right here with me."

Peter
Peter, however, produced two things from his pockets. One, a piece of chalk, the other, a ball of string.

"Didn't everyone read the story of Theseus when they were six?" he said, smugly. Even though it hadn't quite been out of choice.

Cassidy
Cassidy gave him a curious look.

"Who is Theseus?"

Quinn
"Greek king -- are we really going to talk about mythology now?" Quinn asked. "Okay, so we stay together and we mark our way and we're fine. Right?"

She needed to believe that.

Cassidy
"I don't know what a Greek is," she responded. After hearing the rest of what Quinn said. Cassidy nodded. "As long as we stick together we will be just fine."

Cassidy, ever the optimist no matter how she was feeling.

Ben
Ben glared at Peter. "Being helpful is fine. Being smug is kriffing irritating. Tie the string to something and lead on."

Maybe Peter'd get eaten first. It wasn't a very Jedi thought, but it was the first one that flashed through Ben's mind.

Peter
"Just be ready to cast magic missile if anything goes wrong," Peter said, tying the string to a handy bit of outcropped stone. Of course, this was going to go horribly wrong, but he didn't know that.

"Anyone want to take the chalk just for extra marking?"

Tahiri
Tahiri snorted derisively. "Oh, ha, ha. Someone thinks he's kriffing hilarious," she snapped, but put a lid on it -- she knew a little too well how much damage internal friction could do to a mission and wasn't about to add to it -- and held a hand out for the chalk. "Give it here, already."

Cassidy
Cassidy was learning all kinds of new words on this mission and you can bet that after everyone was back safely in Fandom, she was going to ask both Ben and Tahiri what those words meant.

Peter
Peter handed the chalk over to Tahiri with a winning smile. "I have no idea what kriffing means, but I'll take that as a compliment," he said, knowing it wasn't intended as such. "Just trying to make sure we don't get all doom and gloom."

Genesis
"Children," Genesis said, rolling his eyes at the banter and sounding bored. "Do behave."

Cassidy
Cassidy shook her head. She had become convinced that Peter was one of those males that lost their minds and found misplaced gratification by provoking others.

"How soon do you think we'll be able to get to our people?" Her question was directed to either Ben or Genesis. She figured they would be honest with her as best as they could.

Genesis
"That," he said, pleased enough with a honest question, "depends entirely on how many obstacles are placed in our way."

Genesis considered the group.

"Barring unnecessary conflicts with each other," Genesis continued, quite dryly, "I would hazard an estimate that we shall make our goals within the target time."

He still sounded unconcerned. It was a failing of his.

Cassidy
Surprisingly, his lack of concern about what was coming was having the odd affect of calming Cassidy. He was a warrior and if he wasn't worried yet, then this must mean he was pretty sure of their successful completion of this rescue.

"As long as none of us gets into fights with others on our team, we should be there soon, then?"

Genesis
"Within the twenty-four hours," Genesis clarified, with a glance at Cassidy that was a mite sympathetic. "Soon is a relative matter. Hope for too soon and despair will have a greater hold on you should we suffer a temporary set-back."

And he'd not get her hopes up by promising an earlier time.

Cassidy
Cassidy was quickly liking and respecting Genesis. She liked that he gave her honest answers to her questions.

"And all that will do is make our tasks more difficult."

Faith
"We get in, we kick ass, we get out. Simple."

Wait.

"And we get the kidnapped bunch back, of course." There, now it all made sense.

Cassidy
"I'm very fond of that kicking ass portion," Cassidy said with a grin. "Even if I will be mostly watching and throwing things."

Faith
"Just aim for the bad guys." It wasn't that hard to tell them apart, right? "Do you need a weapon? I'm not sure I'll get to use a stake in here." But the Slayer in her never ruled out the chance of stabbing someone.

Cassidy
Cassidy gave her a brilliant smile and showed Faith a grenade. "Mr. Genesis gave me several of these to throw at the bad guys. He says they will explode when I throw them at the bad guys."

With weapons like these, she was no longer feeling like she would be more of a hindrance than a help on this mission.

Faith
Little girls with grenades, Faith was getting all teary-eyed already. "Just...aim for the bad guys. And try to pick groups without good guys around because, eh, that would end badly." Bad as in people missing limbs sort of bad.

She was going to keep an eye on this redhead.
