Silent Hill - Day 1 - Night Post

Aug 06, 2010 19:15

As night starts to fall, Silent Hill gets colder and darker, but no less difficult to breathe in. Someplace to camp for the night that's inside, not surrounded by broken glass doors, and away from the packs of stray dogs in the streets would be a good idea.

Up the road a bit is a large building that looks comparatively un-charred. The sign reads Read more... )

You have to sleep sometime. Ominous narration is ominous. Or eat, or sit around and discuss what the hell is happening, or pretend you don't see shadows out of the corners of your eyes, before you finally do fall asleep. A classroom whose door you can close would seem the safest bet, somewhere at least a little way down the hall from that busted door, just in case.

Bod was glad to be inside. His eyes had been watering throughout the day to the point that he was sure they were red rimmed. If he looked like he'd been crying, he honestly hadn't been. His eyes were just extremely irritated.

He was tired but he didn't want to sleep so he was shuffling through the papers on the floor, looking for anything that might help, might give them a clue as to where they were.

"Find anything?" Didi asked. Her voice had a defeated note that was rare for her. "I have some canned tuna if you're hungry."

"I don't even know what I'm looking for," he said and rubbed his eyes again, blinking some blurriness away. "This is...I don't know. I just -- "

He shook his head and crumpled up a piece of paper almost angrily.

"It's not home," Didi said, sounding just as frustrated. "Usually places, places have some life to them, something humming, but this is just -- it's like the whole town is dead and angry at me."

She rubbed her forehead. "I'm sorry. I'm not making sense."

"It's all right," said Bod, turning his attention away from the paper and to Didi. "Are you all right?"

"As good as anybody," Didi answered, by which she meant she was tired and her throat hurt but nothing was overwhelmingly wrong, except that she didn't feel like she was Death here. "What about you?"

"My eyes hurt," he said and tried not to whine. "The air is bad here. It's dirty and staying outside makes them ache. I probably look like I've been crying."

"Little bit, yeah," Didi had to acknowledge. Her own eye makeup was badly smudged from wiping at her runny eyes. "It wouldn't be so bad if you were."

If there had ever been a time to cry...

She gestured to the lower half of her face. "Jono made a mask out of his bandages. You should ask him."

"I should," he said, nodding and sitting back against the lockers. He let his head fall back against the metal, banging it lightly a few times.

"Selfishly, I'm glad others are here with me. I don't think I'd be dealing with this very well if it was just me."

"I'm glad too," Didi said, smiling the tiniest bit. "It'd be hard to know how to even start thinking about this, if I was the only one here. At least you guys convince me it's not abotu me this time."

"I just hope we can figure out a way to get back home." As much as being with other people comforted him, he wanted to be back where everything was familiar.

Where people were familiar. Bod smiled back at her. "Have you ever seen a place like this?"

"Yes," Didi said simply. "Usually not quite this hopeless."

"Have you?"

"No," he said and shook his head. "I've seen some rather desolate places but nothing like this. This is just unsettling."

Didi nodded. "We have to wait, I guess. Nothing's forever. We'll make it home."

"I hope so." Her optimism was welcome though and he smiled. "I'm sure they notice we're gone back on the island. I can't not think they're not trying to figure things out just as we are."
