People who think Alchemy's in a good state annoy the living shit out of me.

Let's be realistic: How much does the average person actually use something from the craft?

From the consumable standpoint, Oils and Powders are always in modest demand, but with the popularity of /NIN, Tonko and Monomi have all but turned these into a shadow of what once was. 99 will always be greater than 12. Nevermind the Cloth equivalents are cheaper to produce. Echo Drops would be the next big seller, but their true value will forever be limited to the NPC cost of ~880g. Odds are you'll be seeing 1-3k profit a stack if you're lucky. Holy Water is the next med, but how often do we fight stuff that curses? Potions and Ethers have never been in demand beyond niche mission use. The fact these don't stack and now rain from Assaults has all but put the nail in the coffin. Remedies are much like Holy Water in that, while nice in concept, we don't exactly fling ourselves at Malboros willingly. Nevermind Paralyze eating items if it triggers. Most of the remaining meds are either pointless (Elixir Vitae, anyone?), way too expensive for a consumable, or can't even be synthed (Hi-Reraiser, Vile Elixir, etc.).

Durables have a bit more variety, but demand is also considerably less. HQ Crimson is obviously the Alchemy lottery ticket, but the actual demand of these items beyond mere white border envy is minimal. The Gauntlets are the winner in terms of actual HQ greatness, as a solid piece for RNG/COR on the ranged front, and DRK/RDM for Dark Magic. Niche resist builds for PLDs is not enough to make the feet readily desired. With how frugal Kirin is on the Cuisses abjuration (in fact, I'm still waiting on mine ;_;), these have an even smaller demand despite the appeal of +movement. In terms of other items, the NIN katanas are basically a bit of leveling and eventual resale away in terms of competition. Hakutaku Clusters are essentially one-time sales. There's other resale fodder like Flame Swords, Acid Kukris, and so on.

Basically, there's no true "must have" where we can't string people by the balls like other crafts get. And I refuse to imitate the RMT by AH camping and selling hundreds of items just to walk away with a small amount of gil that still won't buy what's left for me to get. Salvage bodies may as well be a relic weapon in my book when paired with stupid low drop rates in the event iteself.
