I've left it a bit late, but I think this is going to be my Xmas fanfic.

This is a DC movieverse crossover, another sequel to my story The Return. About all that you need to know is that Clark Kent is now married to Lois Lane, and that Supergirl returned to Earth in 2008 and is living in Los Angeles as Linda Lee, Clark's cousin. Set post Superman ( Read more... )

I hung up for a minute when you mentioned their being on the lift; Clark and Lois are Americans and would think of it as an elevator.

Do Kryptonians extend the incest taboo to first cousins? Many Earth societies don't; in fact there are a lot where marrying a specific first cousin is the maximally preferred marriage. The Merck Manual says first cousin marriage boosts the change of bad double recessives by about 3%, which isn't catastrophic; Krypton might or might not think it was off limits. Actually if I were portraying an advanced scientific culture I might say that their "incest taboo" amounts to "get genetically tested, and if you have bad genetic risks they're off limits."

Of course, my assumptions are alien to normal American culture; I grew up reading the literature of older centuries, where cousin marriage was far from taboo-Louisa May Alcott's Eight Cousins/Rose in Bloom ends with Rose marrying the coolest of her large batch of male cousins, for example. I'm used to surprise appearances in your cross-over stories, but when I got to Nigel Tufnel, I just barely avoided doing a spit-take.

You are a clever writer, sir.

He gets a bit more play in the first of these stories, The Return. Basically, Linda (for various reasons travelling under yet another identity) meets him accidentally soon after arriving in California, and is offered a house-sitting job after she helps catch his dog.
