2009 roundup meme

ok. I'll bite.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I traveled to San Antonio. I had a tooth implant (fascinating to see the digital x-rays of the hardware in my jaw). Scattered my father's ashes on the golf course, as he had asked. Moved my mother to a nursing home. Sigh.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I hadn't made any. So I'm off the hook for 2009. 2010 will be different - I must take off some weight (especially after that trip to San Antonio!).

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not close - but a daughter of a second cousin did.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit.
None

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
More free time. The courage to redesign my apartment. A winning lottery ticket (large amounts only, please) so that I can move to a bigger place in the city.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The year was pretty much a blur as far as dates go.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Supporting my partner through his agonizing eye trouble, I think. Emptying my mother's last apartment. Visiting my sister and not fighting.

9. What was your biggest failure?
The apartment is still un-redesigned, and I still have too many books, and I'm still too fat.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got sick with some sort of virus that messed up my ears for a while. Unusual for me.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
I guess it was the jewelry I just brought back from San Antonio, from the Southwest Craft Center gift shop.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Jim, for being stoic about his eye as much as possible.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My sister's, when she visited me. But she's gotten better.

14. Where did most of your money go?
teeth

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
can't think of a thing.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
nothing there either.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? About the same.
ii. thinner or fatter? I am 10 pounds fatter. Sigh.
iii. richer or poorer? A little poorer. Still haven't quite recovered from the market downturn.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
sleep

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I don't celebrate Christmas, but I did have the day off, and that started my longest vacation of the year.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
It's still Jim.

23. Did your heart break in 2009?
Nope.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
There was a great show on American craftspeople a couple of months ago that just fascinated me. And I loved the Inspector Lewis series.

Asleep in my bed.

26. Who were you with?
Jim, of course

27. Where will you be when 2009 ends?
Same place I was last year!

28. Who will you be with when 2009 ends?
Still Jim

29. What was the best book you read?
Perhaps Middlesex. Or the Brothers Karamazov.

30. What was your greatest musical discovery?
No discoveries this year.

31. What did you want and get?
nothing much.

32. What did you want and not get?
A new compact stereo system.

33. What was your favorite film of this year?
I saw only a handful of films this year. It must have been Slumdog Millionaire.

34. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 60, and I think we went out to dinner, but I'm not sure

35. How many different states did you travel to in 2009?
Four, I think. Let's see: Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas. I think that's it.

Piecing together what fits from the year before.

37. What kept you sane?
spoken word (podcasts) on my iPod.

38. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
David Tennant

39. What political issue stirred you the most?
Wow. A long list. Health care reform, the economy and how to repair it, the shortsighted idiocy of Congress most of the time.

40. How many concerts did you see in 2009?
Hm. I don't recall any. Have to repair that.

41. Did you have a favorite concert in 2009?
No.

42. Who was the best new person you met?
An upstairs neighbor I hadn't talked to before - very interesting woman.

43. Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
It's more what I didn't do - which is a lot.

44. What was your most embarrassing moment of 2009?
I've blocked it out - I'm sure there was something.

45. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
just go on

46. What are your plans for 2010?
More traveling, especially to visit family. More time for myself. More exercise. More education. More sleep. I hope these are not contradictory!
