A man was sitting at the entrance of to a city, watching travelers approach.
One such traveler asked him about the city. Before replying, the man asked about the city they had left behind. Hearing all sorts of dread and horror stories about the other city's corruption, untrustworthy people, and so on, the man seemed satisfied and told the travelers they should continue their wanderings, for they would only find the same things in this city.
A second traveler approached and asked about the city, and he too was questioned about his origins. The traveler replied his home town was beautiful and full of good, helpful people. Sure they had their faults, but most tried their best. The man, satisfied by this reply, welcomed the traveler and invited him to stay, saying he would find this city to be like the one he came from.
