despite its frequent outages, it's truly a site for the imaginative fan.
I think it's really important to note that even though AO3 has had a lot of outages the past week or so, the maintainers are doing an absolutely amazing job of keeping the users informed on what's going on and why, along with an estimated date for when it'll be fixed. Now THAT is customer service that makes me a loyal user.
I've been tempted to join, but I've heard that there's a wait list of several months. That and I'm not sure my writing could be good enough to get accepted...
People are handing out invites that lets you skip the waiting time, if you're interested in joining without the long wait. People have been tossing them out like confetti since the purge began. OP is offering them in the post, and you can also find them here:
Here's my take: In 2002, FFN decided that they didn't want to host NC-17 stories anymore (this was before the whole change from G-NC-17 to K-MA). And sure, at the time, a LOT of people were against it. There was talk about opening up another site, there was talk of people pulling ALL their fics from the site instead of just the NC-17 ones. People were pissed. But you know what? The site survived. And while it sucked at the time, because there were some great NC-17 fics out there, and some of the authors were lazy/inactive, so they didn't get uploaded anywhere else, and the fics disappeared. But for ten? years, FFN has not allowed MA fics, and if you're going to knowingly post fics that are above a M rating, then you kind of deserve what you get
( ... )
How do you access the latest chapter of a fic without having to go to the first chapter first?
You currently can't afaik, but that could be something they're working on. After all, for the longest time you couldn't do that on FFN either.
That said, full agreement with you regarding the rules and I've been on FFN since 2001, so I saw that whole mess and really it wasn't that big a deal at all in the end.
If you still have an invite code for AO3 I'd love to have one, I'm getting tired of seeing stories being deleted and wondering if mine is going to be next. I prefer AO3's layout more as well. Please email it to leslieb12345@hotmail.com, thanks!
If you still have any invites, I'd love one! Starting to shift over to Ao3, just in case FF starts pulling my stories off their website (though I'm crossing my fingers that they don't). Mostly as a backup, maybe permanently, I do love their sorting system so much more than FF's. I've long had issues with FF's organization system, it's so vague and makes finding specific fictions so difficult sometimes.
*cough* Edited because I was silly and forgot to include my email XD It's zaikara@gmail.com.

Apologies if I sounded like I was disparaging AO3. God, no! They're amazing.

Afaik there are no benchmark quality guidelines, so don't worry.

Also, I believe I should mention that people didn't like how they did it and how certain words that didn't seem very obvious to be above K rating.
