I can believe some people could be that tactless
Sorry a little rant about one of my coworker.
Does tact can be sell on e-bay? Because one of my coworker need a crate of it. A uge crate of it.
I'm sure that any one that work with the public know that you meet any kind of person. In a book store, you can have some weird request and people with interest totally opposite of what I believe in. My job is to help them, not judge them.
That something my coworker Guylaine seem to forget all the time. She sometime comment about the book people asks for in their face. She normally manage to make it look like a bad joke, but with her condescending voice I wonder why she never have more complains. I finally understand this week. It because we cover for her.
I mean the client seem so angry or upset that we feel like we need to say something to not have them blow up.
This week Guylaine have over do herself, so much that I still feel uneasy around her.
Situation : A young woman (early 20 max), come to ask what is happening with the book she order 2 month ago. Not the first time she come and I know that she a bit special. She deep in magic and wizardry. I often serve her and I know how she is. She a great girl, but really unsure of herself and in her own world.
Except this time I was busy so it's Guylaine that serve her. After some research she tell the client that the book is back order for the moment. I could tell that she just want to be finish because anything in the esoterically section doesn't interest her.
The girl ask really politely her if she had an idea of when we will have it, because she need it. She mention the fact that she do magic and to protect herself she need it.
What Guylaine answer to that?
Guylaine:« Just make it appear with your magic. »
Client: « why you laugh at me. »
Guylaine : « No miss, I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you. »
I was froze there, waiting for the girl two male friend just punch her. I can see that one of them want to. And the poor girl look like she was about to cry.
Finally they where about to go out, when one of the friend stop to look at the manga. I do like I have to put some there and manage to talk to the girl.
I explain briefly to not listen to Guylain because she a bit closed-mind and that I will call when the book arrive. It seem to make her feel better a little and they get out.
To make thing worst, when I came back to the counter, Guylaine was telling the story to another coworker and she seem proud of what she have done. My other coworker seem as much shock as I was. When she ask why she have say such a thing she answer : « Where in 2010, let stop living with the medieval time. »
Say the woman that live for the opera and love all the book talking about the kings history. -_-
I wish i could go and complain about her, but my manager would not listen. Guylain have been there for years and everyone know how she is.
Still that doesn't make it easier to work with her.
