Blatant Stupidity Should be Against the Law

There's graphic descriptions in this post so it's going under a cut. Don't read if you have a sensitive stomach or cry easily (I almost cried just hearing it)

So, I heard two stories today that disgust me. It just proves one of two things. One, the world is full of incredibly unintelligent people, or two, the world is full of incredibly evil people. I'm not sure which I hope it is.

Story one:

Somebody throw a fire bomb through a window yesterday. The house it went in to was home to a mother and two children. Why would you do that? Even if you hated the mother (which doesn't make it right) why would you try to kill the children? What is wrong with this person. It's just beyond words for me how someone could do something so evil. Luckily all three lived.

Story two (this is the graphic one):

First some background information. In my state, hunting is a big thing. We hunt everything from squirrels to bears. We have designated hunting seasons unless it's an emergency. You may think, why would you need an emergency hunting season? Well, once, a couple years ago, the deer population exploded in one city to the point where they were constantly being hit by cars and had begun to spread a disease call tuberculosis, which humans can also get. So, they opened up an emergency hunting season to curb the population.

Now, we are allowed to use traps. I personally think some of them are quite cruel, but I can't change the law so there you go. We are only allowed to set those traps during the designated hunting season and they are not allowed to be set on the ground. The only animals allowed to be killed outside of their season are coyotes and raccoons (because those are quite vicious when they want to be). A cornibear trap is designed to be a lethal trap for animals around the size of a beaver.

On to the story:

Yesterday morning, I believe, a couple left for work. This couple lived in Lansing, a very urban area. They left their 18 month old German Shepard puppy outside in a fenced in backyard. They're still trying to figure out if the dog somehow got out or was let out by someone else. Needless to say, it got out. A neighbor was seen placing a cornibear trap for skunks between their house and another house. Another neighbor saw this and called the landlord demanding he come and remove it.

He was 5 minutes too late. The dog, Kye, was caught in the bear trap. Animal control was called after hearing the dogs cries, but there was nothing they could do. The animal control officer arrived, but apparently, this trap is so strong that it has to be set up and opened by two people. The dog has tried to get help. There were claw marks around where the trap was and on the sidewalk where Kye had tried to drag himself back home. No one could do anything and the dog died.

My questions are: What the fuck were they doing setting a lethal trap on the ground in an urban area? It's bad enough you killed someone's pet. What if it had been a child? Children don't think of private property. They go where they want when they want. They could have wanted to take a shortcut in between the houses. What if they would have stepped on it? They may not have died because they're bigger than the animals it's designed for, but they may have lost a leg. They could have died from blood loss since it seems no one could get the trap off. Plus, let's not talk about the pain they would have to endure.

I don't know what is wrong with people these days. I hope they go to jail. However, they probably won't go to jail for the dog. Just the other day a psychotic MSU student got a fine for torturing and killing 11 dogs. It's ridiculous. They will probably go to jail for trapping out of season and setting the trap on the ground. They may go to jail for public endangerment also.

*shakes head* I just don't get people.
