Notes: I have been in a huge, terrible writing funk. I had to seriously concentrate to get this out... and I don't even like it. But since it was done, as usual, I'm going to post it at let others think what they will. Also, Shara is not Rafiki. I swear.

"Do you miss it, then?" Shara's inquiry was soft, like the light from the candle as they sat in their room at the inn.
Ritz's shake of the head seemed mechanical. She refused to look the viera in the eye, and Shara could see a dusty redness had spread on the girl's face; Ritz was lying.
Shara reached out and threaded her fingers through a few locks of Ritz's hair, pulling it into the moonlight of the window, the red hue becoming almost unnoticeable in the focused whiteness. "There is no shame in missing your past."
Ritz's face darkened and she leaned back to reclaim her hair. "There is when your past wasn't kind."
"Sometimes, it is not." Shara leaned forward to counter the distance that had been placed between them. The viera's scent was making it hard for Ritz to concentrate on her bitterness. "But that past shaped who you are now, and there is nothing wrong with believing in the things which made you a better person." Shara paused. "I, too, know this dilemma."
The hume girl winced once, almost like a nervous tick near her eye. "You're right." Ritz turned her hands up in her lap and stared at them. When she spoke again her voice was thick. "But sometimes, that's too hard to admit." Ritz looked back up to Shara, her eyes reflecting standing tears, begging the viera to remind her why it was so much better here and now; that she wanted to forget those things and wasn't yet prepared to admit she missed them.
"Then we shall not worry on it." Shara hand caressed Ritz's cheek and it was as though that very action released those tears. "But know you are never alone," she whispered into Ritz's ear, pulling her into a close embrace.
