Vigor
It was safe to say that Ktjn looked up to her elder sister, yet her reasons for leaving, while on the surface appeared to reflect a devotion to a sister she loved, were not completely true. If anything, Ktjn took her sister's departure for an excuse to leave. She sought answers to a life she was unsure of. Vieras were warriors, protectors of their precious Wood, but that was not who Ktjn was. She craved a knowledge of life, anything that was fairly unknown to the vieras by choice of ignorance is bliss.
It would be that she happened upon a chance encounter with another viera who lived out among the humes. She was a warrior, part of a clan like Ktjn's sister was but she somewhat different than her. Ktjn learned her name was Shara and she was part of Clan Ritz. She was silent and wise, as accurate with an arrow as she was with the right words to say. Ktjn felt a pang of love for this stranger and befriended her despite the glaring of a pink haired hume.
"It is not I that you love," Shara said one day without ever being confessed to about this love. Shara was odd like that, almost psychic in her words.
Ktjn's heart squeezed in pain as she dreaded where this conversation was heading.
"Oh?"
"You love my spirit, much as you love the spirit of your sister. Free spirits that will not be bound down by traditions."
Seeing confusion in Ktjn's eyes, Shara rested a callous hand on her cheek.
"You seek the vigor of life. Your sister and I represent some of the vigor you seek but you must go out on your own and experience this vigor for yourself. It waits for you to find it and learn from it."
"And if I cannot find it?"
With a chaste kiss to Ktjn's lips, Shara smiled sadly.
"Then you will continue to question yourself. I only pray you find someone compassionate who will point you to the next stage of your life as I just have."
They departed, Ktjn not seeing Shara again for several years. When they met, Shara smiled approvingly.
"So you have found your calling? Found what you sought?"
Ktjn smiled back, adjusting the green beret on her head before replying.
"I have found happiness in aiding others."
"I thought you did not think yourself a protector?"
Looking away, Ktjn smiled at the setting sun. "A wise woman once told me to go and find the vigor for life, but she did not mean life in general, she meant my life." Turning back to Shara, she nodded. "And I have. Thank you."
Shaking her head, Shara looked out at the sunset.
"I did nothing more than give you a place to begin your search. You were the one who debated and took your time, finally coming to a decision that befitted you. In essence? You proved yourself a true viera, with a vigor for life."
