Author's Note: I'll probably attempt one of the Prompathon prompts this weekend...for now, though, here's some slightly cracky silliness.
The trek to Mt. Bur-Omisace is undoubtably the longest so far...and as far as Penelo is concerned, the most miserable.
Chill winds whip the snow around her and the air is sharp in her lungs. She wades her way through a knee-deep drift and greatly wishes she was home under the hot sun of the desert.
A warm hand taking her own startles her, and she turns to see Fran standing alongside her. The others are a bit ahead of them now; Penelo wonders how long she'd been standing there, missing the sun.
"You are not used to the cold, are you?" Fran asks, voice barely audible over the wind.
Penelo only shakes her head. She doesn't trust herself to speak; she doubts she can get the words out through her chattering teeth.
A hint of a kind smile flickers on the viera's face. She squeezes Penelo's hand slightly and begins to lead her up the cliff.
"Walk behind me," Fran tells her. "I do not mind the wind, and it may make the climb a little easier for you."
"Th-thank you." Penelo replies, falling in line behind her. She expects the viera to let go of her hand, but she never does. In fact, Fran's grip seems to tighten ever so slightly. Perhaps the ground is even icier here...
There is a part of Penelo that feels silly for being guided like this, while there's another part that doesn't mind at all. The heat from Fran's hand is both soothing and surprising; how could anyone stay so warm in this kind of weather?
Especially while wearing so little...
Suddenly, Penelo finds herself thankful for the snow; the flakes landing on her blushing cheeks are more of a relief than an annoyance.
Well, that's one way to do it.
