"The sky is... weird," said Krile, wrapping her arms around her knees and looking up as the embers of the campfire glowed. "Now that the world's been put back together. Don't you think?" She glanced over at Lenna, sorting out the potions while Bartz and Faris hunted.

Lenna stopped and turned her face skyward. "It is quite different than what I grew up with," she said. "Your world was always there above us."

"Yeah," said Krile. Deep blue, white stars. There was no great blue-green curve in the sky. "...I used to make stories up about what this world was like," she said. "Grandpa always said it was a nice place." And when Krile had met the others, she could see that. They--this world--it was innocent. They acted as though there were no barriers to stand in their way, because things would turn out All Right. The people at Tycoon lost a king, and regained a princess, and they threw a banquet, because everything had been okay.

It hadn't been. But the Light Warriors had managed to make it... not okay. Better, though. Lenna was back. It was hard to make things really okay, but they could be better than they were last year, and the year before that. That had been her world. But now it was neither world, and nothing was okay at all...

"Are you okay, Krile?" said Lenna, sitting down next to her with a face full of concern. Krile looked away. She didn't want Lenna to see that she was sad. "It's all right. You can tell me," she added, as though she'd read her thoughts. Lenna had a way of doing that.

All Right. "It's not there anymore," she said, quietly. The marshes outside Bal, the grey, craggy mountains, the slight darker cast to the sky, even at noon. Stupid, you shouldn't talk about your world not being there anymore. Think about what Lenna's lost. But there was no chilly silence--just a thoughtful one.

And a warm hand on her shoulder. "It's not gone," said Lenna. "It's here. The two worlds as one, remember?"

Well... yes, that was true. Different... "I guess they're back the way they're supposed to be, huh?" she said, with a small smile. Lenna smiled back, full of gentleness and hope. And Krile could believe that, looking into her green eyes.

Things would be all right.
