“Cissnei?” It was Elena’s voice, coming from behind her.
She turned and saw the woman with short blonde hair.
“You don’t have to be so tense around us,” Elena said, “Not everyone is out to get you.”
“That’s not what they told me when I left the orphanage,” Cissnei replied.
“Well then, what if we just start one person at a time? I’m your friend, right?”
Cissnei felt her face flush. In truth, ‘friend’ was less than she wanted to hear. Still, her trust issues were trying to get the better of her. Maybe ‘friend’ was good enough for now.
