Why this must be read:
While this is a remix of something I originally wrote, I love it all by itself, as it's an opposite perspective to my story, written with what is still very much the mood I wanted for the original, a half-dark and not-quite-perfect situation and relationship for a woman who is not who she claims to be and another who has secrets of her own. What rivrea has done is to take Inara and show her view of Kat and their first meeting, to show us both a more tender side to Kat and a sharper side to Inara than what we saw in the canons and to make both ultimately believable: Kat's drug abuse, Inara's loss of her homeland; Kat as atheist, Inara's view of a possible afterlife, and New Caprica when no one else will discuss it. I feel sure that anyone who knows either show will enjoy this story, because it draws on both sides of the crossover with just enough detail to make it work far, far better than I'd ever planned.
