South Figaro is a large, prosperous port city along the coast of the Dune sea. A major waypoint between Figaro and the rest of the world, the population of South Figaro numbers in the tens of thousands, not including the outlying areas where small towns are located. The cultural make-up of South Figaro is predominantly Hume, but with all sorts of different races mixed in. If there was a real world equivalent, South Figaro would be a combination of a mediterranean costal down, with Brazilian undertones, topped off by some Mexican hacienda construction.
Gathered along the docks is a large contingent of men from the Figaran military and guard, ceremoniously garbed. King Figaro is standing beneath a cloth canopy, held up by two large wooden posts. He stands there, with his arms crossed, checking a time piece.
Edgar was told to expect someone, he is just sure who or what yet, only that someone was on the way, today.
As the ship pulls in to the dock, a mixture of Shinsec and SOLDIER 3rd class troops can be seen manning the rails. They move to position with well-trained precision and discipline.
The ship docks and a hatch opens up in the side where the welcoming party is located. As gangway lowers out through the hatch and down to the docks, a few more troops take up position. After a moment they snap to attention.
When this happens, the legendary silver-haired hero of the Fifty Years War appears at the head of the plank. Sephiroth surveys the scene for a moment or two before proceeding down the gangway towards the king of Figaro.
About six feet away from Edgar, Sephiroth haults. Placing his fist over his heart, his head bows.
"My Lord, I have come."
The ship is heard before it is seen. Or rather, Edgar is informed of its approach before everyone else on the dock sees it. He steps out from beneath the canopy as the ship pulls up. Edgar widens his eyes for a moment, when he recognizes the silver haired warrior step off the deck. He quickly composes his expression, calming himself down.
King Edgar inclines his head in acknolwedgement, keeping up pretenses, "Sephiroth, welcome to South Figaro. His Eminence, Emperor Mateus told me to expect someone ... I did not know that he meant to send you to my shores. Your fame speaks more about you than your own presence." Edgar smirks slightly, "Welcome to Figaro."
Edgar extends his hands beckoning Sephiroth to follow him. Edgar nods to his men, who move over to help the Shinsec and SOLDIERs unload and prepare to move into the territory, "I hope your voyage was uneventful?"
Sephiroth looks up and signals to the Shinra troops, who break formation and begin unloading and preparing items. Vehicles also are being unloaded. "Yes, thank you. The emperor wishes for me to be a visible presence for the next week or so."
After sparing a glance back to make sure orders are being followed, "Vice President Rufus Shinra will be arriving also shortly. We have been contracted to assist you in the matter with the church. It is felt that my presence will help to deter the church from making any hasty action."
One corner of Sephiroth's mouth curls slightly. "I will be honest your majesty. It is my opinion that this deadline is a hollow scare tactic and if you stand firm that nothing will come of it. However, there are those more highly ranked in the empire than I who feel that certain appearances must be upheld."
Edgar watches the soldiers for a moment. A brief flash of interest passes over his eyes as he sees the vehicles. Those would be really neat to take apart and investigate. A little more advanced than his magicite powered mechachocobo. However, he refocuses his attention on Sephiroth, returning the small curling smile to the giant warrior, "I think so too, but to be honest, I'd rather bark at them rather than have it turn into war. If His Excellency didn't send you, I think I would have had to left them with a bloody nose first before they reconsidered. Now, I believe, they will reconsider with no bloodshed."
King Edgar walks along with Sephiroth into the main area of town with his hands folded behind his back. "Oh, good. I will make sure to have our embassy here in South Figaro is properly prepared to receive another guest. We would not want you gentlemen to be uncomfortable in your stay here." The Machnist King glimpses back to Sephiroth's men, "Will your men need lodging as well?"
Sephiroth shakes his head. "We have plenty of room on the ship." It is rather large. "And we also have temporary fortifications that can be built. We use them quite often and they have most of the amenaties of home. I'm not quite certain as to the manner of the Vice President's arrival. He may wish to partake of your hospitality. I really can't say."
There is a slight chuckle, "You may see General Kefka as well although I am not certain in what manner or for how long. Should I have my men confer with one of your officers on where we can deploy?"
Edgar nods understandingly, "Of course, of course. I just wanted to make sure, because we do have a few warehouses that can be used as barracks, should the need arise." Edgar and Sephiroth turn a corner into the main square of town. It is higher than the rest of the city, which overlooks the surrounding land and the city, "Figaro is a fairly large nation, split in half by a mountain range. I would ask that you and your men man the southern half of the Kingdom, as in my Castle, I have sufficient barracks and men to defend the area up there. Besides, it is mostly desert.."
Edgar turns slightly when Sephiroth mentions about Kefka. He makes a slight face, but Sephiroth might understand, "Why might I see General Kefka? Is he assigned with you?"
Sephiroth's smile does not broaden but the catlike eyes do reveal something of mirth behind them. "Shinra troop deployments are very costly, especially when SOLDIER gets involved. However we can deploy at a moment's notice and we are among the best in the world. That in itself makes the cost worth it. I don't see the imperial treasury wishing to foot this bill forever though. I would be surprised if the empire did not wish to leave a garrison here. General Kefka's name was mentioned when I met with Emperor Mateus and Vayne Solidor, although nothing specific was discussed in my presence... only that they had to meet with him regarding a related issue."
"Ah, I imagine we'll have to discuss that later, I am sure," Edgar explains without even missing a beat. He nods quietly, and then bows his head to Sephiroth, "But, until then, just make yourselves comfortable in this larger half of the Kingdom. I must return to my Castle in order to inform my Chancellor of the situation. He will be in contact with you shortly. I will leave a platoon of my soldiers with your men, with a messenger. When the vice president arrives, send word to my Castle, and I will fly down here to meet with him."
Edgar bows his head to Sephiroth again, "If you need anything, do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you, once again, for coming to Figaro. I doubt anyone will have to die or even be injured. It will just be nice to show that it would not be worth the time nor the trouble to attack Figaro."
Sephiroth smiles fully this time as he bows his head again. "It will be done your majesty. Always remember that the empire is fully devoted to protecting all of it's allies... and it's interests."
"Mm, yes. And for that, I am eternally grateful," Edgar says, smiling at Sephiroth fully, meeting his gaze with his own piercing blue eyes. "Do take care, Sephiroth."
With that, Edgar bows one last time, and turns on his heel striding right for the small platoon of chocobo riders waiting to take him back to Figaro Castle. As he swings his leg over onto his own personal chocobo, Athelbert, Edgar gives one last glance to the ShinRa ship and to Sephiroth.
Edgar gives a wave, turns his chocobo, and gives a small kick to get him going. With a wark, the small score of Figaran soldiers and its King start off to the northwest, back towards Figaro Castle.
