She gets up before dawn as she always does, to cook him breakfast before his daily training swim. He's never asked her to do this for him, nor has he ever thanked her for it beyond a few quick words as he runs out the door. But that's all right, she thinks as she flips the eggs, sizzling in their heavy pan. She knows how much it means to him.
"Mornin'."
She looks up, sees him standing in the doorway connecting the houseboat's kitchen with the living area, and she smiles. "Good morning. Breakfast is almost ready."
"Can we make that to go?" He strolls across the kitchen and comes up behind her, hands on her waist. "There's s'posed to be some hundred-year high tide today, an' I want to make sure I catch it."
"Sure." She slides the eggs onto an already-toasted slice of bread, then slaps another slice on top. Turning around, she holds the sandwich up in her hand, waving it under his nose. "No time even for coffee?"
"'Fraid not." He grabs the sandwich from her and takes a hurried bite before leaning in close, smacking his lips against her cheek, just catching the corner of her mouth in the kiss. "Thanks, hon. See you tonight!" And with that, he's out the door, blitzball in one hand, sandwich in the other.
Through the window, she watches him go, sauntering over the deck, down the dock, and disappearing into the city, just starting to come to life with the first pink rays of sunrise.

Ah, the calm before the storm? This was great.
Man, you know what? I'd love to see you write more Jecht.
I think your style really suits him -- it's earthy, vivid and real. I know I always use those adjectives in reference to your writing, but seriously. I'd love to see more of the J-dawg from you.

That was the intent anyway. Although if one prefers, it could be just a day in the life...
Glad you enjoyed! Interesting thought re. writing Jecht. Much like Gippal and other trickster characters, I enjoy writing him but don't do so often. I shall have to think on this.

Holy mackerel. On rare occasions, I manage to read a fic without noticing the author's name.
It was a great fic, so perfectly in character for Jecht that it felt like the game, except less superficial. (I don't mean that in a bad way, but games seldom have time to day-in-the-life).
As usual, I am a voice junkie: goodfic is goodfic when I can hear the characters' voices in my head.
I didn't recognize YOUR writerly voice at all. No idea whatsoever this was yours. This pleases/awes me.
