"To Kohlingen!" Edgar commanded the engineer of Figaro Castle, as the submarine sand-castle dove deep into the desert. The engine roared, the gears grinded, and the whole castle shook as it made it way across two islands.
"Let’s go upstairs for a moment," Edgar brought Celes and Sabin out of the engine room and into the foyer upstairs. Away from the deafening noise of the engine, Edgar faced Celes and extended his arms outward.
"Can I get a hug from a long-lost friend?" Edgar flashed his most charming smile.
"You never stop, do you?" Celes shook her head. This could have been one of Edgar’s many attempts at wooing women, but Celes was genuinely happy to see him again, or Sabin.
"Now, now," Edgar shrugged. "It would be ungentlemanly of me to make advances on another man’s woman."
Celes gave Edgar a scandalized look, "I never said I was Locke’s woman!"
Edgar cocked an eyebrow, and pointed at Celes’ thigh, "His bandana is tied around your leg."
Celes looked down. She had almost forgotten where she had stored Locke’s bandana.
"I slipped down a cliff," Celes said. She did not say that "slip" was intentional, and she immediately thought of Cid.
"Well, I’m sure he’d like to have it back," Edgar said, seeing that Celes was suddenly uncomfortable. "We’ll be in Kohlingen in no time. Maybe..."
"...he’s there," Celes finished Edgar’s sentence. "Maybe he’s not. But we’ll find him. I know it. I have faith."
Edgar stood with his hands slightly swinging at his sides, looking at the floor. "My, this carpet needs a damn good washing. All the sand has turned it pink."
Celes grinned, then wrapped her arms around Edgar, "Yes, you can have a hug. I’m so happy you’re alive."
Edgar wrapped his arms around her waist tightly, and smiled, "I’m glad you’re alive, too. This world needs all the beauty it can find."
The two of them then found themselves crushed by an even tighter embrace.
"Aw, I love you guys!" Sabin grinned widely. "Now, let’s go find everyone else!"
Celes coughed out a laugh.
